Been working on a bobber project. Thanks to all who have previously posted info and pics. I used several bits of info during this build. I have been on a very limited budget so some things are a little tacky but hey...I'm in it less than a grand so who's complaining. lol
I will start attaching some pics of the build over the next few days. It's been fun.

Overall stretch about 6 inches and lowered to about 4-1/2" off the floor.

Last pics for tonight. I built a chain tensioner to help keep the chain slap to a minimum.

Thank you. I have a buddy that built a sweet XS650 and I was looking around for something along those lines when a friend at work offered me this XJ for CHEAP. It was sitting in his barn for 3 years and needed a lot of little tlc but to bob it most of that stuff just got removed so I decided to go for it. I am really surprised at how fast this thing is for a 550. It'll fat smoke that XS650 hands down. I'm still dialing in the jetting and I want to put a crotch rocked muffler on it to tame the noise a bit but its been a blast.

    Nice job!!!
On the selfish side... are you considering selling parts off the original configuration? Would like to talk about mufflers, tank emblems & side covers.

I think you are going to need to install some monster Gussets to reinforce that ass-end before the bottom rail bottoms-out on you.

I'd "Form-fit" a hefty piece of Plate into the lower junction and "Dress" the back-side of the Plate with a piece of Pipe ... cut-out - length-wise to slip-over the width of the back-edge of the Plate ... for a nice Custom look to the reinforcement. (Do 'em all like that)
