I just bought a 1982 XJ1100 in perfect condition, except for one thing. The previous owner ran the bike out of oil and burnt up the cluth. The bike was stuck in 2nd gear. I thought by changing the cluth the gear box would let go, but it hasnt. I have taken the cluth apart and dont know how to get the bike out of gear. This is a winter project to make a cafe racer, if any one has any pointers please feal free to let me know.

    Welcome to you Ride.
First order of business, you ought to post your bike and general location in your signature line, help could be really close.
Secondly, running a bike out of oil is a VERY damaging event. I doubt seriously that you will get away with just changing the clutch. Since I am not familiar with your model, I will defer to the more knowledgeable of our brethren.
    Welcome aboard.

I know that running the bike out of oil is pritty damn bad, probly the worste thing one could do, Just wondered if anyone new a trick or something else before i take the gear box apart. I filled the bike up with oil when purchased, ran fine considering the plugs were foulded and the aircleaner looked original for a 22,000 mile bike.
