It might be the same as for the 550 NOT for the 650.

We don't have access to the non-USA part numbers. Can you get a part number from a Yamaha dealer there (even though it's "discontinued") so we can try a cross-reference?

Sorry I can´t, because it´s a Japanese market version. I can tell you that
is a 4 cilynder engine with equal number of carb, also that is a 1981

Check out this place. A few places down, they have an XJ400 listed and it looks like they specialize in parts off of older or damaged bikes.

I've never used them, and I'm not endorsing them, but they do have what you need.

That might be a mis-listed twin, be careful. The 4-cylinder 400 was never brought into the US unless by a private owner or two.

Best bet is to track down a part number and see what we get. I'll see what I can do.

Igor, did you post your VIN in your other thread? Please post it here it will help greatly.

It's a small world, my friend. If we can confirm interchangeability with the 550 you are all set.

Doesn't the xj550 air box have holes for four carbs. The 400 has two carbs.

Jarred, he has one of the Japanese-market "true" XJ400 (4-cylinder) bikes.

Igor, it doesn't look good. While there are a LOT of "4G0" prefix parts in the "intake" section of the 550 Seca's parts fiche (like the boots and manifiolds, etc.,) the airbox is a "4U8" which means it's specific to the 550.

I'll bet you anything the 400's carbs are more closely spaced than the 550s.

See if you can measure from the center of #1 to the center of #4 and I will measure a 550 airbox and we'll compare.

Ok. I've never seen the 4-cylinder 400's. Sounds interesting.

They LOOK virtually identical to the 550 Secas, same bodywork and a lot of parts in common. One or two years of them had 4-collector-4 exhaust pipes reminiscent of the old 4-megaphone Honda 750s. The 550 Seca is a 4U8, a lot of its parts are "4G0" though.

I've never seen one in person either but I have two 1/12 scale plastic kits of them, one from Revell and one from Aoshima.

I believe there was also a "Maxim" styled version released as well. It was a twin to the 550 Max except for some detail items (and the smaller motor.)

For what I know, The 400 and the 550 are the same, in most of the engine parts.

well, they LOOK the same. A LOT of Yamahas LOOK the same until you start actually measuring. A lot of the parts do interchange, as indicated by the part number prefix matches. A lot also don't even though they look alike.

Let's see how the carb center measurement compares. Like I said, I'll bet the carbs are closer together by a few MM.

OK Between the firts and the last carb, centers I have 21.5 cm, may be
one or two mm diference, but that is the distance.

You may be in luck. I measured around 217MM- 218MM. Slightly more than 215 but pretty close given your tolerances.

Of course, given the part number difference, there may be other differences that may or may not affect fit. It's worth a shot I would think.

I'm not sure if you're in the same situation, but on the 550 you can't get the airbox in/out with the motor in the frame. Thought you should know.

I will start watching on eBay for a 550 Seca airbox for you.

I have a spare 550 airbox you could have, but I will be away from home the next three weeks so it'd be a while before I could send it

What is the matter with your one? or does it not have one?
