    Hi!

I'm just wondering if a front fork from an XJ 550 -82 will fit on a XJ 550 -83 (both bikes were sold in Europe originally if that matters at all!)

    Thank you!

Ok, let me adjust the question... I can get hold of a kit containing front fork with complete steering head and everything. Is it the same frame construction on the 550 from 82-83 so I would be able to fit the -82 front fork and steering steem in my 83 frame?

I don't have the bike here so I can't measure myself right now... Any idea anyone?

Yes... from 81-83 there were no changes.

The North American XJ550 models came in both a Maxim and a Seca model.

The European and rest-of-world (ROW) models were what we in North America call a "Seca" model. The North American Maxim and Seca front fork systems are different; the North American XJ550 Seca front forks are more comparable to the European and ROW "XJ550" models............

Right... seca and maxim forks are different. but the 81 seca and 83 seca have the same forks and the 81 maxim - 83 maxim have the same

I just got hold of a complete front fork with steering head, a new front fender plus two brake calipers for a total of $300 so it looks like my problems are solved! I got backed over by a van this summer (the fork just snapped!), but now I'll soon be back on track again!

    Thanks for your help guys!

    COOL!

Did your original LEFT slider (lower fork) get ruined in the process? If not I might want to discuss it with you...

    bigfitz52!

I'm sorry man but the old fork is totally wrecked... Both sides snapped halfway down the outer legs. The driver of the van had gained quite a lot of speed when he hit me so the bike sort of got stuck under his bumper and the fork twisted of befor he noticed that something was wrong... Good thing I threw myself of in time!

I hadn't driven that bike for 6-7 years and this happened just a couple of hours after I'd got it cleared for traffic use again =) Murphys law? It was my shortest season on a motorbike so far that's for sure!

I guess I'll put the fork legs up on the wall in the garage, some serious art right there I tell you!
