Hello all, am looking for a larger size tank for my 550, not sure what will swap over to my frame for direct bolto n or slight fabrication. Does anyone know if there is a fat bob type tank that will fit, or a swap from a larger bike that has a larger tank. Would enjoy the larger fuel capacity, but also looking for the fatter style tank for look, thanks alot...

If it's a Maxim (and I assume it is) then the only bolt-on option for a bigger tank is a tank from the 750 Maxim's. Everything else will require fabrication.

Anyone have any side by side comparisons of a Maxim 650 with a Maxim 750 tank on it? I've considered doing the swap myself, but I'd like to get an idea of how it would look before forking over the cash.

I have a 750 tank on my 650. Check the pictures in my profile - the one with the name badges still on it is the 650 size, and the other one is the 750. Fits right on and in my opinion, looks good. Does definitely change the look of the bike!

Jim, where did you get the mufflers for the 750? I like the look of that!

Not sure that the 750 tank will fit on a 550 though...

I found the mufflers on eBay; I think they were listed as being from a 550 but I have never found a picture of another bike with this style. I am still really curious about it - anybody seen these before?
They didn't fit quite right - but I made 'em. Had to do some tricky stuff to get around the sidestand.
They do have a Yamaha part number stamped right on them so they are from some bike, someplace....and the downpipes did fit just right.

jimw, post the part number and we can look it up as to what bike they fit from the xjcd cross ref.
