Does anyone think using an ultrasonic bath to clean the slide/diaphagm assembly would hurt the thin rubber?

don't do it. the slides are delicate and the rubber may or may not stand up to the chemicals in the ultrasonic bath.

diaphragm rubbers can be cleaned with dish soap. the slide itself -- a rag with a bit of carb cleaner. do not use abrasives on the slides -- they have a thin layer of teflon-type coating..

when you're done, apply some meguiar's natural shine or armor-all on the diaphragm rubbers....

Thanks for the response, Stereomind. I like the Armor-all idea.

I should have mentioned that the solution I use is mostly water with a little lemon juice and dishwashing liquid added. Pretty mild stuff. I am mainly concerned with the ultrasound agitation - if that does something to rubber.

i dont know if the agitation would hurt it, if the rubber is in good shape it seems to be pretty tough... but i dont know

If you're using mild soap, I don't think the agitation would hurt either. I was more worried about the type of chemicals that you might be using in the bath. I'd still do them by hand, but I guess everybody's got their style :)

NJRIDER, we're only talking about the slides here, since they have a non-removable piece of rubber. For the most part, ultrasonic cleaning works quite well for the metal bits, so go right ahead!

As for rubber pieces, make sure whatever chemical you're using is rubber-safe...

Personally I'm a big fan of old toothbrushes, q-tips, Scotchbrite and Berryman's B-12 Chemtool for carb cleaning. Mild soap or diluted Simple Green for the diaphragms and then wipe with Armor-All.

Don't submerge them unless you're tearing them down completely; whatever you submerge them in can get trapped in the throttle shaft seals.
