XHarleyX, that's very nice,. I like the sportster tank in there. But I think you could level the tank a bit more for a better look. I think it would make the bike look not so short. What size rear tire are you running? It looks huge on the picture, like a 140.

X2, yeah the tank's a tad bit high, plus a nice set of 10.5 sportster shocks wouldnt hurt either. IMOP

in order to get the tank any lower i would have to do a single backbone. the xj 3 piece backbone wont let the tank go any lower. and I don't see much point in putting shocks on a bike with a springer seat. either shocks and solid seat, or solid suspension and spring seat. never both.

looking good but i have to agree about the tank. I say get a cheap welder practice your ass off then go for it. Welding is a great skill to have and it's really not that hard.

well guys, its actually kinda a style of bobber to have a tank like that, forget the name.. something like a brat bike or something... if you look at old school bikes fromteh 50's or so, they look alot like that...

though one think to pull it off, a nice matching paint job for whold bike... and what really makes those tank look cool, is an old school flat track racing number, somthing single digit... just my opinion

most def! i think I'm going to do a real heavy metal flake paint and probably black some things out on the frame. give it that "frisco chopper look"

    all in due time

just have a few little tweaks to straighten out

XharleyX What size is that rear tire again? It looks like a 140 from the photos. Just wanted to check.

Harley, one of the first mods I made on my bike was to put a sportster style tank on it. I had the same problem with that whole triple backbone thing. I used a piece of 1 1/4" tubing that I ran from right behind the neck ( I just cut it on the correct angle and layed it over the existing center backbone.) to behind the seat where the cross tube is. It sat higher than the triple backbone for the tank to sit on. It didn't look all that bad and gave me a good mount for the tank. Since I didn't cut any of the existing backbone out, safety wasn't compromised. So the welds don't have to be perfect. It's just a thought. It subsided the mod fever for a while and wasn't very expensive or difficult.
