So I got a few things accomplished today... Got the engine installed (twice, damn airbox), installed swingarm, rear wheel, shocks, center stand and the triple tree. I also rebuilt both of the front forks, but they're waiting on paint... Speaking of paint, I discovered that my garage heater is perfect for baking freshly painted parts... Yay.

    Here's a couple of pics...

Looks good, it gives me a good idea what my "G" could look like all shiny and clean.
Just for fun, mine was #223 off the assembly line

Whee! Got some more work done on the Mutt.
It's now rolling on its own two wheels, which is good, cause I was getting tired of the wheelbarrow action (ow, my back!).

The forks are done, and amen for that. Rebuilding a front end with anti-dive is a bit more time-consuming than the original 650 set would be. Outer tubes got a fresh paint job, too.
The instrument cluster was disassembled and cleaned inside and out.. The chrome is still a bit spotty but I'll get after it with some Mothers later on. Rear brake is fully functional... Oh, and the bike is sporting a new set of Shinko tires... These are pretty soft, so I think they will grip nicely.

I need to find a headlight assembly.. Anyone got a bucket and lamp for a 650? 550? Anything round?

    Pic time!

This is how I bake the painted parts

Fresh coat of black gloss on the outer tube...

Here it is, on two wheels.

Oh, and this is what I started with...

Looking good. I sanded and sanded my forks starting out with a course and worked up to fine. Then I polished them and it made a world of difference.

    Another update:
It starts!!! Kinda loud without headers and airbox boots, but I only ran it for about 10 seconds, just to make sure I wired everything up right. Can't stop grinning!

There's still a ton to do, but the list is shrinking:
    -Tank... sand/apply decals/clearcoat/sand/polish/polish/polish
-Custom Seat... the plan is to have someone carve a new cafe-ish pad on top of the stock pan. I'm not even gonna try to do that myself.
    -Custom tail fixture
-Front fender.. Getting it chopped up next week.
    -Controls & mirrors
    -Horn
    -Fairing

Note to self: XJ without headers sounds like a two-stroke on crack.

EDIT: I should've mentioned this earlier... the photos are clickable.
