Evening chaps (and chapesses, there must be some female XJ owners out there, marry me ha ha!). New user, name's Peter and currently freezing to death in the North East of England. Bought my '89 XJ600 a few months ago as a hack to run into the ground. Turns out it's far too good looking a bike to be abused so I am pouring money into a rebuild. Have refurbed the wiring loom and painted the frame, next on the list is an engine rebuild. It is such a pleasurable bike to work on. Just ordered a full gasket set from wemoto so there's the next few weekends accounted for. Splitting my spare time between the XJ and my '82 Ford Cortina, aiming to have both built by next easter. I WILL have techy questions for you as I progress! My other bike is a Honda CG125 which needs no tool other than a hammer for repairs.
All the best & happy belated thanksgiving to those of you in the U.S
    Peter

    Hi, Peter.
    Welcome!
There are a few XJ600 owners on this forum - me included - and some Stateside (Where it was called an FJ).

If it's not a rude question, how much did you pay? Mine was £350 from ebay with 2 months MOT and tax, but shes taking a while to get "MOTABLE" again. The cold and dark nights aren't helping either.

Got it for £299 from M&S motorcycles in Newcastle(had been traded in), no tax or MOT and hadn't been in use for a year. Put a new Motad exhaust on and it ran ok, tyres good, brakes all good just all round a bit tatty. After replacing the exhaust and clutch I thought what the hell, may as well strip it bare and rebuild as tight as I can. I see your comment about previous bodgers, you should have seen some of my wiring! Invested in a good set of non insulated crimpers and rebuilt the loom, built in an XJ900 digi clock whilst I was on, bought brand new on ebay for £12 (list price about £150). Am learning about the XJ all the way along, if there's anything I may be able to help with just ask.

The daftest thing on mine was the ladies tights used as an air filter - click on my "Gallery" to see - and my regulator is not original and somebody just twisted together and taped the wires!
