Well it is hard to tell from what you wrote ,but I will take a crack at it. First you have to make sure to clean the carbs perfectly. While you were in the carbs did you do a clunk test? Also did you bench sync the carbs. I would start there and when finished try it. If it still doesn't start we will go from there.

    Also, welcome to the site.

Do you mean it will start with choke on then runs ok after some warm up and runs ok with choke off?

Or starts ok with choke then will not run with choke off?

Or will start with choke on then runs ok after some warm up and runs ok with choke off BUT after stop for a short time will not restart unless choke on?

Firstly, you need to stop that leaking petcock. Do a search on that. IMHO the synching is all about smooth running and not easy starting. Get those float levels right, get new plugs and confirm fuel is getting to the plugs. We'll get to the smooth running bit later! Welcome aboard!

Well when you are cleaning out the fuel enrichment circuit. You might as well do clunk test and synch them while you are there. Do I need to get my DUH! sign out?

    Rkjjdj, first- - Welcome.
Next, if you had a running bike before you cleaned your carbs, you would want to get back to that set-up first.
Some points of interest on your carb clean- -
Did you remove the 4 "O" rings and washers that are in the Pilot screw wells??
Did you find the "Beenie Screens" in the needle/seat area??
Did you clean the 4 jets in the float bowls??
How did you set your floats??

These are just some of the finer details of the carbs.

I just posted this in another thread and it completely applies here:

The carbs on these bikes are complex instruments that are very susceptible to getting gummed up from sitting and being clogged by rust particles from the fuel tank.

This isn't something that's going to be fixed by halfway "tinkering" it's got to be done right or it won't get fixed, you'll just keep fighting with it.

The carbs are going to have to come off; get broken down and carefully cleaned and any worn or deteriorated parts replaced. Then the float levels will need to be correctly adjusted using fuel and a clear metering tube.
The carbs will then need to be bench sync'ed; and once back on the bike, vacuum synced and their idle mixtures adjusted.

Then and only then will the bike run properly. Short cut the process and it won't work. You'll need a shop manual.

To that I'll add: everything you might have questions about has most likely been covered and probably argued over more than once in this forum. Use the search function, and look under "FAQ Suggestions" for some very helpful posts, with photos and everything.

It's possible that you just moved the "dirt" around inside the carbs, and you further plugged the pilot system, and you'll never get your idle back until you research and do a complete tear down.

You must remove your pilot screws, the 4 "O" rings and the 4 washers, then clean completely the Pilot passages.

You must clear the tiny jet in the BODY of the float bowl.
It will be an OMG experience when you find it.

The thin brass tube, run a wire thru it. That's where I found some crud.
There's also a tiny transfer port on that tube- - 4 of them.
Your new tool will be a single strand from a wire brush.

Welcome to at least the fifth circle of hell !!

Did you remove these are any other jets?
