I think I'm gonna sell my maxim and purchase an 1100f. I'm talking to a guy in Dallas about one, but I can't buy it until I generate some cash from somewhere. The XJ has been great, though. It is still a joy to ride.

Has anybody actually ridden a CB1100f? I've heard they're pretty awesome. I ultimately want to test ride before I buy, but I'm pretty sure I'll like it.

It looks almost identical to the XS1100 and reviews say it was fast, for it's time. You'll probably like it after you get used to riding a big, heavy bike that's massive compared to the XJ. It should be a lot more comfortable for long distances since heavy bikes generally don't rev as high and don't bounce around or vibrate as much. Don't expect fast, responsive handling though.

yeh my buddy had one of them and there a comfortable bike and pretty quick too, overall a real nice bike and very enjoyable to ride, like Steve says they dont handle and corner very well. I actually found it to be a big bulky bike but i guess its just what your use to riding.

That's odd. It only officially weighs a little less than 100lbs more than the XJ. They do seem much longer, though. Maybe that's the handling difference?

KNow anybody who might be up for a trade?

100 lbs is a lot in motorcycle land. Figure most 600cc sport bikes are in the 380-400 range, bikes like our XJ's are in the 500 range, anything close to 600 IMHO is a HEAVY bike. Actually, I think our XJ's are pretty friggin heavy at 500+....

I have ridden my brothers 750F with a 900F engine and his friends 900F with an 1100F engine. I have to say I liked them both. I did not ride either very hard but I did notice they both felt a little heavier then my 750 Seca and the wider engine heated up my legs a bit more then I am used to. Even My brother's 750 frame felt a little longer, I liked that but I am also 6'2" and don't ride like I am on a sport bike all the time.

All in all I think the CB-F series is a great bike. The downside to the 1100F is it is a one year bike so some parts can be hard to find. And as with all the CB-F bikes make sure the cam chains and guides are in good shape (no noise), that is one of their weaknesses. Also, check out cb1100f.net for more info, it is a good site.

    Thanks for the tip.
    I'm 6'3", so I'd kinda like a longer bike, I think...

Steve, I was surprised that you think the XS1100 had almost Identical looks to the Honda. I personally dont think they look alike at all. The CBF is much sleeker with that tank and swoopy sidepanels and tail. Actually quite like the Seca in that respect, as was the similar CBF750. The XS1100 was more rounded and very heavy looking, with no pretentions to sporty handling. I am sure a CBF would run rings around a XS1100, though that might not be saying much, as anything can handle better than a 603 lb shaftie like a XS1100. I think the Honda weighed in at about 560 lbs, kind of in the ballpark of my FJ1200. I thought the red/white /black color scheme of the Honda was gorgeous. I remember it going thru the quarter in just over 11 secs in a mag test back in the day. Definitely fast. Top end should be about 140-145 allowing for poor aerodynamics. I expect it made about 90-95 rere wheel HP. As mentioned elsewhere, there was some camshaft issues on the 750`s, in particular but would be sure the same would apply for the 900`s and 1100`s. Honda had the same issues with the early Interceptor 750`s. A very clean CBF1100 would definitely be a collectors Item, and would fetch large money on E Bay if it was mint. They are so rare.

Yeah, when you're straddling one and it's trying to fall over, I think it's pretty darn heavy myself!

If you search awhile at cb1100f.net, you might come across a thread where one member found a FREE CB1100F which the owner simply wanted to get out of his garage. It was mint, with a beautiful, braced CalFab swingarm and such.
