Does anyone have any input wheather using lead fuel additive is advantagous for an '82 xj550 that the mfg recommendation is to use leaded fuel no longer available?

i'm pretty sure any motor vehicle made after about '73 can run safely on unleaded gas. the lead would shorten spark life also i think. my '81 550 maxim seems happy enough on unleaded.

I strongly suspect that those manuals were printed that way for the US market only... as all models sold here in Canada after 1980 afik are spec'd for unleaded fuel. Which leads me to believe that the engines are actually just fine with unleaded, but they didn't want to tick off the American buyers market at the time by specifying the 'no lead', so just printed it that way to appease them.
