    Good price, 4 sure.
Compatability list says: XJ900 83-94, front & rear, but the rear should be thicker than the fronts, WTF.

I'd like that for the maxim 650. He didn't have any in his store but maybe I'll call them.

The disc pictured says Min. Thickness 4mm. Manual says 7mm front and 8mm rear. Various places i have looked list front and back as the same discs. Still could be worth checking as my rear is shagged. (disc that is!)

The Haynes manual appears to refer to the disc thickness for the 1983 - 84 XJ900, with the smooth surface discs, that are almost the same front and rear. Mine is the later model with the slotted discs, which are 5mm thick and a bit worn down. As far as I know the minimum is 4mm for these type of discs are well as the aftermarket ones.

The rear disc, and probably the caliper has remained the same as the earlier XJs.

The exploded drawing on page 6.3 of Haynes shows the earlier disc setup, while the bike being serviced in the photos is the later type.

I'm not sure if there would be compatibilty problems with fitting the different discs. The calipers would have to travel the pads only 1.5mm further in on each psiton.

The overall diameter of the different discs is not mentioned in the service manual, to be able to check if the brake pad will cover the whole contact area of the disc.

The ebay discs look like a good design to me. Attached are some pictures of the front and rear discs on my bike.

Mine are both vented disc's like your rear. the front is 8mm and the rear (was) 9mm. Looking at your pic's i guess the slotted dics's fit OK then.

The calipers appear to be the same throughout the years - Sumitomos. I don't see any problem with the piston travel for the different design. I used to have an RZ250, which had the same slotted discs front and rear as my current XJ. I may have to look at these discs soon. Mine are 4.75mm front and 8mm rear.

If you get some, I'll be interested to hear what you think of them. They would really update the look of the brakes.

Alot of post 2000 bikes have this design of disc. I should have a look in the shop. I think they are on Maroondah Hwy - just down the road from me.
