Was removing the rear tire (doing a rebuild on it tomorrow morning) and this little thing fell from somewhere. Have no clue what it is or where it goes. It fell right from the area of the rear sprocket... after the wheel and axle had been pulled out... I was situating the chain so it wasn't hanging on the ground and ding, there it was.

It goes right where you adjust the rear brake, connects the rod to the brake arm I believe.

ok, well I just took apart everything on my shaftie before I left, never saw a part like that, must be something with the chains

I do knwo how to get this worked out though, pm bigfitz, he has every part cache or what ever (part diagrams) and you hsould be able to find that part in the rear wheel page.

personally, me thinks it has something to do with the chain adjuster, but I dont know

CaptNemo is correct - That is definitely the insert for the adjustment rod for the rear brake arm.

Exactly the case. I was all over page 198-202 in my clymer after I had gone all over the place on the actual wheel and the bike and couldn't find it. Looking in the wrong place. haha. Thanks everyone!

Drop it in a cup of white vinegar for about three hours. Take it out and polish it up; then when you reassemble give it a shot of dry lube (my preference, doesn't attract dirt) or a dab of grease (be sure to wipe away any excess, for the same reason.) Install it with the already worn areas toward the rear and wear out the other side.

Polish the hole in the lever too.

that white vinager trick sounds cool,

I just wet sanded with 1000 grit on rusty and corroded things on my bike, cleaned them up and didnt take off the finish... I wet sanded with either liquid wrench, or john deere multi lube..
