So I got these really snazzy, chrome grips for my bike. Really nice and installed perfect on my left handle bar. Took the throttle sleeve off to put the other grip on and it wouldn't just go in. So being the experienced motorcycle mechanic that I am (hahaha...) I figured I'd pound that bad boy in with a rubber mallet. Took about 20 minutes to get it in the grip and by that time i had ruined the grip but figured it was good enough. Then noticed that somewhere in my whacking the heck out of it I also broke the throttle cable end holder thingie. Its useless... trust me... LOL. So I bought another set of the same grips and a used throttle sleeve. So I don't ruin them again... how the heck do you get these things on?

what were you using for a glue/ lube?
steal your womans hair spray, acts like a lube then dries and holds it well

She doesn't use hairspray. But as long as I can get it on there... this thing is not slipping or coming off... It is going to be a tight fit either way. But is that what I need to do? Lube it up? I thought I might have to file the throttle sleeve ... at least those tabs on the end or something.

Listen to Schooter, get enough spray on there so it is dripping off, then shove the sucker on, or if you have grips with a hole in the end, stick the airline in there, that works.

Gotta look carefully before doing that. I did it on a grip once that turned out to be double walled. It exploded in my hand. The burning sensation went away pretty quick but my ears were ringing for two days.

I like to stick the nozzle from my air hose right up against the leading edge as I slide them on. They puff a bit and ride a film of air. I wouldn't do both air and hair spray though, would be messy.

There you go. I run aftermarket grips on all my bikes (can't stand the originals, hands too big) and you definitely need to remove those "lugs" on the end. Depending on the grip you may want to file down the ribs a bit too.

Then "float" them on with compressed air as Carl suggests.

Got the grip on there. Thanks guys. Darn thing still had to be filed a bit and it bulged out a little but still looks great.

    Where's the pic? heh.

I usually use a little squirt of wd40 to slide the grips on. Just make sure everything is really clean first!
