    So.. I'm 6'
And after about 2 hours of riding around town and runnin errands and sittin on my queen seat for about and hour (<---NOT a queen) I just need to stretch my legs out!
I've been lookin at some highway pegs online and I know they can get pricey, but I've yet to see some that actually look like they'd be the right fit for our bikes.
    Any suggestions?
    -Chris

Mine's got the crash bars with pegs on them. They're yamaha pegs. It's stamped right through them. Can't say where they came from they were on the bike when I got it. They'll be coming off over the winter though as I have plans to make forward controls.

ebay is your friend! I got a engine guard with pegs for about $20 off ebay. It's in great shape but it did take a few weeks of watching to find it.

I had a buddy make some for me. They bolt onto the frame where it starts to turn and go under the engine. I bought longer grade 8 bolts and currently have washers stacked in behind the plate to space it out a little. I still need to paint them and put some grip tape on them, but they work great. Much more comfortable on long rides. BTW - I'm 6'6"

I'm just about 6'1" and I made a set with a bunch of scrap metal I had laying around. The chrome twist bar a friend gave me. With the bar in front of the pipes, I get a nice strech set to a custom legnth that is very comfortable.

    Cheers

    Huh!
Thats pretty cool Vet! Those crash bars are pretty neat too. Not Huge like most. Very Nice.
You're bike is CHROMED out! Did you repaint your exhaust with the Chrome engine enamel?

Thanks for the props SLKid, I sand blasted the pipes to get the rust off then, I hit them with VHT (high temp) break caliper paint. Don't do that! The paint blistered after the first ride then, discolored to a faint gold/silver color. I'm thinking about wraping the pipes with black header tape to cover up any blemishes that will be popping up like pimples as soon as it starts getting wet here in the Great NW. BTW, took the bike out today and, couldn't have been more pleased with my hiway pegs. I use to have the type that clamped onto the crash bars but, they were just too short and would eventually slide around to the front. The pegs that I have are as solid as a rock, you can stand up on them without a hint of movement in them.

    Cheers

Chris, I built my own. They look a lot like earz_cd's. Made them out of stainless. Welded a 7/8" bar stock onto a piece of 1" flat stock. I machined the round stock to accept the footrests from an old set of drag specialities that my Dad originally had on it. I wasn't crazy about where the drag specialities pegs mounted. They were way too hig. These are a much better height.

Here are the pics from my gallery.

Alk I was thinking something very similar! Attaching right where you attached. That gives me a BRILLIANT Idea alk!!!!
I made my own Ammo can brackets out of steel, why not make my own highway pegs the same way!? I can get like, 12 in of steel bar and make a 90 degree bend to attach where you attached, then find some rubber that I can cut and slip on the end to be a little more comfortable.. Maybe paint it black.. Hmmm
    Thanks Alk!!
Vet I'll keep your paint suggestions in mind. I've become an amature painter the past few months! Ya'll should see what I did to my Helmet! I think they have Chrome Engine Enamel that withstands 500 degrees that wont blister if applied to your headers. I'd say give that a try

So I made some pretty simple pegs. I'll take some pics after I cut off about an inch and a half and paint em up. They look pretty good actually.

My headers are wrapped and then painted with DEI header paint. hasn't peeled or flaked. Though if you get in a rain storm the wrap soaks up water and the bike gets a nice steam cleaning.

Hey ya go. I am gonna take an old shoe and cut the soles up and put them on the pegs for grip, but here it is.
Its just a 1/4" piece of steel bar at 9 1/2" long bent at a 90 then bolted on and angled correctly for my feet. Works ok. Not perfect, or EXACTLY what i wanted, but its nice to stretch out! I'll come up with something better I'm sure

Makes me nervous, if you hit that on a turn it might be bad news.. I'd think something with a hinge. SLKid, when you see this, have you had any close calls?

Yeah only one. I slid down a newly paved slope and only when i had the bike over 45 degree angle the peg caught and spun me around. Bent the peg slightly but with my Ammo Case Saddlebags and Pegs It saved the rest of my bike from any damage.
After the incident I went to Home Depot and bought some snap hinges and cut my pegs, screwed the hinges on, and now only have them out when I need them. Granted, they saved my bike from some severe dents and dings while out. But catching the ground while I was already about to fall scared me S***less. Spun me in a 360!!
Perfect size though. I'm 5'11" with long legs. So, spend the extra 5 bucks and get hinges and screws. Simple door hinges. Ones that pull out with minimal effort, but SNAP back in place with a nudge.
    Thanks guys

    Alk,

Great idea.... I may not do the fwd control thing...

I have a chrome/steel twist bar/pegs on the bike now... that would be perfect...cut it, and weld the ends to the flat stock.

    Stainless stock is 304?
Did you use 1/4" or ??
Guessing you used the existing mounting bolts?

I don't speak welding, but have friends who do...

    Thanx in advance...

'82 XJ750 Maxim- the almost finished work in progress??

I've tried some of those comercial fake chrome paints, I settled on matte black rustoleum bar-b-que paint. I made my own foreward pegs out of 3/4 square tubing and reinforced it with 5/8 thread stock, fastened it with u bolts to the frame cross member beneath the motormounts behind the pipes in front., prestressed it like a gituar string (torqued it inside from end to end of the tubing using 5/8 coupling nuts and heavy flat washers) then covered the remaining with 5/8 heater hose then used crutch handle pads over the top. Its taken a beating but hasn't bent yet. I'm 6'3" and weigh 235. Tc bros makes a nice kit but I only paid $500 for the bike, so $300 for pegs with foreward controls seems steep. I think I spent $20
