What battery are you using and why that one? I'm having sporadic problems starting my seca 900. It seems to always crank but doesn't always start and acts like it's flooded. I then compression start it and it's fine for weeks. Last time it wouldn't start, and wouldn't compression start. I jumped it and it fired right up. I'm thinking my battery is weak...had the bike for 2 years and same battery. Not sure how old battery was before I got it.

Question: I'm looking at an Interstate battery that has 220 CCA, all the rest that I've been able to find range from 165cca to 210cca. What are you using and what's your experience with it? Thanks

lopezfr2, Thanks I'll check out the fuse box, though I'm hoping it's something simple like the battery.

yamasarus, Thanks for the info on the AGM, the one I'm looking at is that and after rereading it is a 210cca

the old fusebox will work, just not very well. i used to have to occasionally take the seat off and push on the fuses to get the blinkers to work, and the tabs taht hold the fuses in place are really brittle. its not a MUST, but something i would look into (its cheap too.)

I am using the cheap Wally World batteries simply as a matter of economics right now (with no issues). I want the AGM but it will have to wait. There are two down sides to the cheap batteries:
#1, Maintenance! Cheap batteries need their hands held regularly. You MUST check them every week or so for fluid levels. Top off as needed with DISTILLED water ONLY. Tap water will kill the battery off slowly. Make sure to throw a trickle charger on it if it sits longer than two weeks and bring it back up to charge.
#2, You need to ensure that your overflow tube is properly installed and routed. I have had and have seen many examples of corroded frames from acid leaks due to the tube either falling off or not being installed at all.

So for the AGM battery it is a good idea to replace the fuse panel? I was planning on getting the AGM just for the maintenance free thing and with good power. Just don't want to fry anything or start going through alternator parts or something.

Re your non-starting have you checked the choke is actually being engaged (at the carbs). My bike needs full enrichment when starting.

Mine came with a cheepy walmart battery from the previous owner. Not even the right size, the guy had to put a block of wood in the box to compensate for the short batt..

Looking into getting the proper one this spring.

When I rebuilt my bike I made an electrical box to hold the battery, tci, regulator, fuse box, and solenoid. I didn't realize how much a battery could leak until my battery overflow tube disconnected and I melted most of my connectors (and a good chunk of my tci casing).

Thanks guys... I replaced the battery and she back to running great now. Now our rain has returned so I'll wait to ride. It could be worse, we could be getting snow.
