I don't think I have even seen a xj1100 . I was wondering if the engine is larger on the outside than the 650 or is the difference mostly displacement?

I believe they're different, the XJ is essentially the same as the XS1100.

They LOOK pretty much the same though.

Much more weight and bulk. The alternator is on the end of the crankshaft instead of behind making the engine wider. Much more power too.

I think they are on a jackshaft, just like the XJ's
(edit- -OK, I found the alternator- - on the crank)

Very, very few parts would cross over BTW.

It's on the right side end of the crank.
Same engine XS1100 vs. XJ1100 however they went changed the field coil to a rotor/brush setup on the later XJ alternator. They also installed a fixed set of pickup coils instead of the old vac. ignition pickups.
Either way, the 1100cc bike is a beast.

Yeah...sounds like I need to stay away from that one. I can push the xj650 I have around easily. Heck I had a 94 Sporty and it was a bear to move around in the basement much less on my gravel driveway. Not getting any younger either.

If you wanna see some pics of an '82 XJ1100...go to my thread "New Here"...But as others have already said...they are different beasts.

are there any direct swap motors that will fit into an xj650 maxim frame. Or what could be done to beef up an xj650 maxim
