    Dear Abby,

I've never written to you before, but I really need your advice on what
could be a crucial decision. I've suspected for some time now that my wife
    has been cheating on me.

The usual signs... phone rings but if I answer, the caller hangs up. My
wife has been going out with the girls a lot recently although when I ask
their names she always says, "Just some friends from work, you don't know them."

I always stay awake to look out for her taxi coming home, but she always
walks down the drive. Although I can hear a car driving off, as if she has
gotten out of the car round the corner. Why? Maybe she wasn't in a taxi? I
once picked her cell phone up just to see what time it was and she went
berserk and screamed that I should never touch her phone again and why was I checking up on her.

Anyway, I have never approached the subject with my wife. I think deep
down I just didn't want to know the truth, but last night she went out
again and I decided to really check on her.

I decided I was going to park my Classic Yamaha XJ900RK motorcycle next to the garage and then hide behind it so I could get a good view of the whole street when she came home.

It was at that moment, crouching behind my Yamaha, that I noticed that the Head Gasket on my engine seemed to be seeping a little oil.

Is this something I should fix right away, or should I wait to see if there might be a Indian Summer warm spell?

    Thanks,
    Rick

You got an agent with Dell paperbacks? There are those who would say it's and art and you ought to be publishing Rick. As for the gasket, I've tried to use the spray on stop leak with little sucess. Might be time to retorque or replace the head gasket. Hey, wait a minute, aren't you the fella that swore by Indian Head? How could you possibly have a leak? The plot thickens, mystery after mystery. What a read!

    Dear RickCoMatic
You don't fool me. How in the heck did you see the oil leaking LAST NIGHT......unless you were using a flashlight? Sounds like an alibi for you inattentiveness. It seems to me if you were paying proper attention to your Yammi this situation wouldn't have come about and now you're trying to shift the blame on to your poor cheating wife. Shame on you! I suggest you seek professional counseling, perhaps at a carb clinic.
    Sincerely, Abby.

Well since this is the problem I have been chasing I will give you some advice straight from the problem. WAIT! When you do decide to tackle it do the following. Order the headgasket from zanottimotor.com for $37.50 USD. or order the complete gasket kit from partsnmore.com for $79 USD. Benefit of the complete set is you get the oil seals for the oil gallies, new YICS orings, precut camchain tensioner gasket, new valvecover gasket and last but not least new exhaust gasket rings. Once the head is off have it checked for warpage. This is problably why it is leaking. I had to cut mine 5 thousandths of an inch. Service limit is 10 thousandths. Have the head dowels shaved the same amount as the head. Clean the mating surfaces with permatex gasket remover. This stuff is worth it's weight in gold.
I then coated the headgasket with copper spray which was recommended my local guru Rick and the machinist who shaved the head. My gasket still leaks however. So I will remove the head for the third time and replace the headgasket with one from zanotti and in addition place a small bead of permatex ultra black on the outside edge of the gasket. This has a temp rating of 700 deg. F and is the most oil resistant silicone from permatex. If this stops the leak then I will be unbelievably happy and stoked to make my trip to Canada next spring. If not I will shoot the bike and then myself. Or maybe just get another engine or bike.
In conversations with my machinist I learned that these bikes are more succeptable to warping due to age. But that doesn't ease my embarrasment over having pulled the head twice to fix the problem only to fail both times. I have had trouble repairing parts on bikes but have never been so utterly defeated by one gasket. I earnestly want to win this war so I can lead others to victory or at the very least celebrate mine.

Rick, That was GREAT! Can’t wait to hear Ms. Abby’s response but if it were me I’d fix the head gasket now and ride during the Indian summer! Oh and then maybe pickup a get even side piece during that ride. LOL 8)

Nothing's wrong with the bike. The gag was originally written with a Harley-Davidson bike doing the leaking.

I just thought I'd use the XJ Theme and give the folks on this wonderful, Cyber Cruise-ship a little laugh or two ... to end the week!

Although, I did put Zanotti Motor's in my pull-down Favorites. Thanks for everybodies concern about ... THE BIKE !!!
