I have a blinker the only works when it wants to (left and right). I changed the whole left handlebar unit and it made no difference. All the lights work fine when it does work.

Second, every once in a while my starter button doesnt work. If I keep pressing it or hold it down, eventually it does work. And I have changed the solinoid before (no dice).

    Any ideas???

Sounds like it is probably just dirty contacts. Take both the left and right side switches apart, clean contacts until they are shiny and reassemble with conductive anti-seize compound. I did this on my 650 Seca 3 years ago and the switches still all work beautifully.

Pay close attention when putting the units back together, because if you do it wrong you can pinch a wire and that will also cause erratic operation.

Right. Sorry. Whatever will coat the surface to protect against corrosion but will still allow conductivity. :)

Well, I took both controls off and cleaned them then coated all the contacts and slides with di-electric grease (love that stuff). They did need a good cleaning, I'm surprised that they work at all. But unfortunately it did not do the trick.

Update. I read some older posts about flashers, and decided to change mine out. I didn't buy the Tridon Stant #EL13 that most people are using. My dad has an auto shop so I asked him if he had any 3 prong flashers laying around. He pulled a box off the shelf that looked to be almost as old as me (29). And what do ya know, it was made in Japan. All I had to do was switch 2 of the wires on the plug, zip tie it in place, and presto the blinkers work.

As for the starter button, only time will tell. But it was pretty cruddy, so I am hopeful that is is fixed

Thanks again for all the help.

Good update. Hopefully the cleaning helped the starter button. I didn't think to ask before if you had tried a new flasher. Glad to her you got it working!
