what a difference a muffler can make the mac 4/1 with it's standard muffler was a nightmare to tune 126 mains and needle shimmed .040 and still had a real lean spot at 5k, first ride with the supertrapp and i scared my self :)
a little tweak here and there and i think this is going to be the
    schnitzel

how does one find out they're lean at just 5K?

also, that muffler does look like the bee's knees, I hope you're ging to main that mid section

also also, I like the frame paint

"how does one find out they're lean at just 5K?"
on a flat or slight up grade, 5th gear roll on and when it gets lean it just stops pulling (5K on a 750 should be ready to get on the power band)
hold the throttle there, tricky part, as fast as you can let off the throttle a little (1/4 turn) and twist it back
if it picked up some rpm your lean there, if the rpm won't come back your rich
the butterflys closed making a richer mixture for a instant till the jets caught up,
3 or 4 blips and i was at 6k and it took off, the supertrapp solved that
one of these days i'll make a pretty weld :)

I have an earlier model supertrapp, megaphone shape all stainless, with 10
discs in it. Carbs are all stock, plugs are good colour, engine runs very well at
all revs. Sounds good to me and not too loud. They are a good muffler, th only tunable one I know of.

    Polock,

I have supretrapps the universal kind. the inlet is 2" so It shouldnt be that dificult to adapt those to my 750 seca BUT, I am having a nightmare adapting them.

Can you explain how you did it? Could you post a picture? the link for the picture in your previous post is broken.

    Thanks,

    Carlos

I took the supertrapp and the MAC muffler into the local advance auto parts and went the adaptor bins and bought one of each that fit somewhere, took about five of them home fit it up and took the rest back, they hate me over there

Thanks Polock. I think I final got it! Let see! Do you have pics Of your mufflers?

Skillet, if you are asking for supertrapps I got them in eBay for 75 dollars! I'm replacing the disks and the screws! Messing with them I screwed them up. Live and learn!

Sure you could. SuperTrapp makes a whole line of "slip on" mufflers, you probably need one very similar to what Polock used. The magic is in the discs; you can tune them so no rejetting is necessary, and as our compatriot has discovered, they actually WORK!

My '81 came with a Kerker on it. It was completely, evenly, and thoroughly RUSTED beyond all hope. The Kerker pipe for the XJ550R was a "period" accessory. Go with the 'Trapp.

    I know! How come?

I thought I knew everything but, sometimes life reminds me that I know almost nothing!! LOL I thigth them really hard, then I went to the supertrapp website and find out they need only 15 pounds of torque or 2 turns after they touch the disk. The funny thing is that they guy in the video gives them only one turn.
The holes got so thigt they started biting the screws. One broke. I could of fix them but for 60 bucks I got the whole pack with screws.

Hmmm... makes me think twice about using my trapp on the MAC 4-1 Headers. I'll prolly try out the MAC muffler first tho, see how it sounds and runs with it.

If it's not right i can always put the trapp muffler on and remove/add discs as i need.
