I had a John Deere sled back on the farm in Vermont. That being said, I'm positive you got the good end of the deal.

It looks like you have a lot of work to do to it, but from all the other forums, that bike seems to be an excellent candidate for cafe`ing.

    Good luck!

I almost bought one of these... thing that turned me away was the effing bike weighs an effing ton!! That being said, by buddy Chris has a 360T thats a blast to ride (but its 100 pounds lighter and has more ponies in the engine since he went nuts on the performance mods)

    Re: 1975 cb500T project

Todd Henning Racing has a ton of Hi-performance, go-fast goodies for these engines if you are leaning in that direction. They are indeed heavy machines in stock trim, but the engines are solid and absolutely bullet-proof. As long as you pay attention to oil changes and other usual maintenance, the bike will run forever! No spark? No problem. These bikes use old-school points and condensers. New ones are easy to get (aftermarket) and that's usually the source of ignition problems (if there are any). With a machine that old, the coils are probably weak and you may need a new battery but that's usually expected in a bike of that vintage and condition, otherwise the ignition systemn is very simple and straight-forward. No computer (expensive) modules or other solid-state components to worry about. I wouldn't mind having one of those old 450/500 Honda twins for myself.

looking good so far. I love the way a good hard tail looks. As well as what you are doing to the tank. Just curious but how long is that gonna make the chain?
