    Ok, I am a complete noob when it comes to bikes. I got the XJ super cheap with some issues, intending to learn how to work on it and such. I have been trolling the forums here and there, trying to find information about syncing the carbs and checking float levels and such, but I can't seem to find a good guide.

    What screws do I turn to sync the carbs, in what order, how do the sync tools work, are there any "How-Tos" running around with good pics and nice detailed instructions?

    I'm sure there are, I just can't find them. I have seen posts on how to make the needed tool for syncing the carbs, but i'm not exactly sure on how to hook it up and actually sync them.

    I am having issues with one cylinder not firing, unless I cover the carb intake up with my hand. (Playing with stuff) The carbs might need cleaning, but the cylinder was firing fine until my father dropped the bike. ( moving it into a shed to work on it, and he dropped it on the slightly slippery ramp) broke a spark plug but didnt really hurt anything, but after that it sat for a few days before we fired it back up. (had some parts off) So, no one cylinder doesn't fire.

    Even before this, it seems the bike was running rich, and the plug are black. The bike starts and runs pretty strong and smooth, or so it seems, but I have a feeling it could run much better.

    "The Book" says;

    Sync #-1 -to- #2
    Sync #-4 -to- #3
    Sync #-2 -to- #3

    The Screws are for 1, 2 and 4
    #3 Does NOT have a Sync Screw -- Use the Idle Rod.

    Once Number 1 is Synced to 2 ... Just adjusting #2 adjusts BOTH 1 and 2 ... they are married.

    Dropping a Bike generally causes Flooding.
    Try sticking in some New Plugs.

    The plug that got broken when the bike was dropped was the same cylinder that isn't firing now, so it is a brand new plug. All the other plugs were replace 3 weeks ago.

    So, the three vertical bolts on the back side of the carbs are all that have to be adjusted for the sync. I was thinking I was missing something, guess not.

    What about checking float levels? I'm not sure exactly how to do this, and I haven't been able to find some clear visuals. I'm sure they are out there, but I can't seem to track them down.
