If the fluid is being sucked out of the tube, then the carbs are WAY the hell out of whack. Here's my methodology.

First, get a vacuum sync gauge. Second, build an inline restrictor, per RickCoMatic's instructions. Third, use his patented One Gauge Sync method to get the carbs close to where you want them. Lastly, use the sync bottles to finetune the sync adjustments.

I should explain when i Started the bike it looked like the fluid just vibrated all over the tube. did not look like it was being sucked up in to thye engine

I used ice maker hose mounted it in a u shape on a board warmed up bike good hooked it up on 1 and 2 cyclinders, when I started engine the fluid vibarted up the tube slowly shut off bike and the fluid settled back down it looked like was even pulled from both sides. bike still runs go once you get it moving.

Yes, but look closely- - you see a red WD-40 tube epoxied in there ??
That's the restriction you need to calm things down.
But let's say you don't want to mess with JB-Weld- -
Just wad up some paper towel and pack it in the tube.
It flows less, so it restricts more, making the columns less "jumpy"

Here's a look at what you need hooked-up to the Manifolds between the Manifold Vacuum Port and whatever Traditional Device, Improvised Device or Fabricated Device you connect to the Manifolds to Measure Vacuum or Synchronize the Carbs.

    Restriction Devices.
Severely reducing the Diameter of the Vacuum Hose.

    Very easily made.
    Get some Unions.
    Carb Cleaner Red Tube.
    5-Minute Epoxy.

Put the Red Tube through the Hose Union.
Fill-up the Hose Union with Epoxy. Let cure.
Cut the ends off Clean and Open the Red Tubes.

If you use fuel filters as baffle/restrictors, the air pocket goes to the fluid side, the restriction goes to the manifold side.
I can get them for as little as $0.75 , but I've seen them at John Deere for $12.00 each, which blows the budget !!

See for yourself- - blow into water using the "red straw" restrictor, then a 1/4 inch tube tightly packed with paper.

I use 10W fork oil in my manometer without restrictors - it's not jumpy at all.

Yes, the added restriction will produce calmer, steadier readings, especially in a water filled devise.
Tightly packed, but still some airflow, confirm by blowing bubbles.

    hey guys,

this information is killer. just cleaned 29 years of crap off of my "new" bike's carbs and looking forward to hearing this thing fire up for the first time.

does anyone have a pic of where to hook into the carb for the vac syncing? i am not seeing where to get a great vac attachment point.

    thanks

You know where the vacuum line from the petcock hooks into the intake manifold boot?

Yeah, there. The ones on the other intake boots are capped.

loosen the plugs while the bikes still cold if you're working on a water cooled engine. On my 700x water pipes are over top of one of the plugs .Easier on the fingers this way.
