What does it mean when the head lights don't come on? When the starter button is pushed the only thing that happens is the oil light comes on. Just replaced the starter relay with a new one from ebay and its the same thing. Out of many times pushing the button, it did turn over just once with the "new" relay. The problem started happening after I tried turning it over when the cylinders had filled with gas from flooding carbs. Thanks

have you changed the oil after your fuel over flow? Very important if it filled the cylinders. How did you get the fuel out of the cylinder? did you pull the plugs then try to turn it over if you left the plugs in it may have hydrolocked and hurt your starter or worse bent a rod or something. I'm not trying to scare ya just trying to find some more info out. :? Don't want ya running the bike if the crank case filled with gas and its still in there! 8O

P.S. the boys are going to need to know year, model, size, and any mods done to the bike.

Most (all?) XJ headlights don't come on until the engine is running.

No, the 550s too, and some 750s. "Most" is more accurate, although there are a few models that don't fit in. Len clarified it a while back, I can't find it.

Its an 82 xj650. I cleared the gas out of the cylinders by pulling the spark plugs. I have ridden it around the neighborhood by jumping the solenoid and it ran decent. It stumbles really bad off the bottom end, could be from gas still in the oil?
