My Seca finally has a reservation next weekend at a local legend bike builder. I got it running but not 100% so for the past month, it just sat there waiting for my friend Mike to have some time to look at her for me.

Point is: I know a lot of you have SR500s. This is an example of the work this guy does. (and he's not a bad photographer either!)

I like the style of these bikes, but how comfortable are they on long rides? I don't think I could do it.

There is NO WAY that bike needs all that front braking power. It can't weigh more than about 350lb; it's got enough stopping power for an 1100cc superbike.

It would weigh even less with logically-sized components...

heh heh. He needs the extra brakes when he's towing his tent-trailer down from the mountains, lol

Your remark is an understatement but between form & function, I think form prevails in this case. It's all about looking cool and the workmanship he put into it. (you should see his ducati)

Notice the hand-fabricated oil cooler (the little silver cylinder mounted to the frame in the front), He made that out of a solid piece of billet aluminum. Necessary? Prolly not. Cool? Hell yeah!

Also he's known for painting & powdercotaing. The SR motif on the front rim is a nice discrete touch. He's also a master engine rebuilder so I think my old seca will be in good hands for a proper tune-up. I'm actually surprised he's fitting it into his schedule. I would have thought carbs & tune-up would be beneath him :)

Fitz: Batteries are for wussies. In the first pic, you can see the black kick start. If I recall correctly, I believe he even removed the compression relief thingy to make kicking it a little easier. (25 yrs ago, I almost had my ankle broken when starting an old TT500. It kicked back. Hard)

Fab: you remember when I asked you if you could hook me up with your guy? It's because this guy was too busy. Luckily, I got distracted on other things (including the FJR) and was just able to wait it out.

And finally, to Ken in La Prairie: when it's running 100%, think we'll be able to get together for the YICS carb balancing? (maybe in 2 weekends?)
    Beer / BBQ on me!

Nope he's private. I only know him through a friend who had some powder coating done.

That's why it's so hard to get a bike in to see him. Like I said, I'm surprised he'll see my seca at all, considering what it needs done. I'm especially surprised because he openly hates 4 cylinder bikes. He always tells me to get twins & singles. Hence the ducati and the SR.

I'm still half-expecting to have to call on you and set me up with your guy, lol

    I didn't say anything about a battery.

I had TWO SR500s myself, and I still ride my kick-start 850 Norton. My comment was that he went way overboard with some things like the front brakes, that actually probably hinder in some small way its ultimate performance. ONE of those brakes would be fine on a bike that light, and tossing the other assembly would make it that much lighter.

oops. That was a response to ZaGhost, who asked about the battery. Visual association kicked-in there when I saw another merry melodies cartoon character on black a background, I thought it was you. Funny how the mind works.

haha- i never noticed the two cartoon characters being so similar

anyways- on another forum i check out, a guy is taking a dr650 thumper and building a frame around it, its looking very similar to this bike- i rreally like this looks of older bikes when they put modern front and rear ends on it- sexy
