They started the run in 1982. Introduced the bike with the new crop of '83s.

The USA Market got 1000. Yam's Top-Selling Dealer's got two floor models that got snapped-up quick. Other Dealer's got a handful of brochures and took orders.

After the initial offerings were sold; it was a Special Orders and maybes as the remaining bikes were held on the West Coast pending the sales.

Every last one of them got sold and the owner of the Dealership in my Town told me he could have sold all 1000 right out of his shop if he could have got the bikes.

We got them till 1988 in Australia, the spec changed over the years and we lost the antidive front end and multiadjustable handle bars by 85 though the Police bikes kept these and are still the pic of them.
all the police bikes had the 891 top end put on in Queensland anyway, a lot of the 853cc barrells and pistons hit the swap meet circuit in the late 80's early 90's when the police stopped using XJ's.
Makes a big difference those extra cc's

Only sold in 83 here in Canada, although the identical bike, with a frame mounted fairing was sold in 1984 as the XJ750RL. Should never have sold mine.

    fredson ...

I have a few 'Mates, Down-under. Is there as outside chance I could find what I need to make the spare 900 engine I'm rebuilding an 891?

Even though I put some time and money into honing-out the 853 and having the Head all overhauled ... I'd like the extra ponies ... particularily if I go through all the trouble of putting the 900 mil in place of the 750 in my Max.
