So I ripped out my carbs, took them apart and placed my first order with Chacal for a bunch of new parts. I cannot wait!

These things are real nice. Look at the pics. Also note the float pin tower is broken on carbs 1 and 2 :( JB-Weld to the rescue! Whoever took these apart last also stripped a bunch of screws, so I'm getting a ton of those from chacal too.

Damn PO's! Just leave them alone if you don't know what you're doing! I just spent upwards of ~20 hours researching, questioning, reading and watching videos about carburetors before I took them off. I'm still very much a noob, but at least I know what I'm looking at.

Pilot jets on 1 & 2 are completely plugged, diaphragms do not pass the clunk test on any carb, and there is shit in the bottom of every bowl. The float on carb 3 was jammed, which would explain the constant fuel overflow ruining the street.

And yet, she ran! No idle, but she ran with relatively decent throttle reponse.

    And for my question:

    I need name suggestions!
    I'm thinking:

    Maxine (not original, I know)
    The Red Rocket
    ??? I'm terrible at this.

    Love this place,
    Tom

i had a carb that had a broken post too, and i found something that worked really well to fix it. It's called Seal All. It's meant for sealing and adhering stuff in a gas and oil environment, so it won't dissolve. I used it to glue the post (after a very detailed cleaning) and it has held for 2 years as strong as ever, without the extra material i normally get globed on with JB weld.

Just some advice from my experience.

I used JB Weld to fix a broken float post and it held well. I built it up around the mounting point so it couldn't break again. I've used it to patch exhaust leaks on my car also. That's stuff really works!

I was very surprised when I took the carbs apart and saw this - on two carbs. In fact, there was some JB Weld on there already (which crumbled off when I touched it). It was probably at least a decade old...

I've only heard good things about that stuff... can't wait to see it work!

Are these float posts known to be soft / break easily? You're the third or fourth person to mention they've seen or had a broken one.

They basically rot from white rust (and oxidation) that's what aluminum does when left sitting for la long time.
The JB wled is good stuff if mixed properly (half and half) wihich some people do not do. If too muchardener is used, it makes it brittle and breaks easily. if not enough hardener is used, it sets softer with less strength.
