inspection sticker

I went to get a motorcycle inspection sticker about a month ago and the service station said they didn't have any yet. I went again yesterday and tried two different stations and they both gave me the same story about the state slacking on getting stickers out.

In the state of Maine your required to have an inspection sticker on a bike. It doesn't have to be visible but should be kept with the registration and insurance.


-How does insurance handle this? If I get in an accident and they find out I didn't have an inspection sticker will I not be covered?

-What are my rights if I get pulled over?

 

I am not a lawyer.

Experience tells me insurance will probably still cover you and the police can and probably will give you a citation.

I could be wrong, and since insurance companies are usually evil, they may not insure you in case of an accident. They tend to find any excuse they can.

 

writing this message got me thinking and I decided to call the state police to find some of my answers.

Apparently neither of the stations I went to had ordered inspection stickers and were lying to me.

so I'm actually just out of luck.

 

I'm not a lawyer, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night.
But anyway, you should go wherever you can as soon as you can
and get a sticker, or someone will stick it to you.

 

i did learn an interesting fact

over 60% of Maine motorcycles that are registered do not have inspection stickers.

 

So basically, the fuzz wouldn't be out of line pulling over every single motorcycle they see for a paper-check.
