Hey- - I just picked up a CB 900 Super Sport today for a friend,
but I get to work on it. I'll have a look-see. I also have loose (burnt) XJ tanks to compare. Maybe the tunnel is similar.

well don't use up too much of your time...I currently have a '73 CB 350 tank, maybe a 750 would be bigger and fit decently?

The "tunnel" area is huge, but the front mount semi circles seem narrower, so a CB tank (1981) won't go on.

I'm sure the CB750 from the mid 70's can be made to fit. The 80's CB's have diferent tanks and don't look as good as the 70's ones in my iopinion. I would also like to know how it fits. Cause I want to swap my tank as well.

Very cool thread! I can't wait to hear what ideas spawn from this.

Stewart: is your 350 tank too narrow at the neck to fit?

Time: Could the front mount semi circles be grinded off and new larger ones could be bent from a piece of scrap metal and welded on?

it's only too narrow at the seat end of the tank...its mostly friction fit anyway. maybe with all the interest i'll have to get my hands on a cb750 tank and try it out!

Stewart, take some pics of the 350 tank on there, especially where it meets up with the seat. I'd love to see it. I have an old triumph tank and was thinking of mounting that to the XJ or my CM!

    Hey stewart,

Where are the pics we were promised? You take as long to update your threads as I do! Haha.

Sorry, I am just excited to see that CB tank on the XJ!

why is it not going down in the front? Is it the stock rubber mounts that keeps the front of the tank rom slidding down, or is the whole tunnel of the tank to narrow?

yeah, its both. the stock rubber mounts get in the way and the tunnel is too narrow. however, it does sit on there fairly sturdy...

another challenge will be the gas lines...
