XJ550RH tail light needed

I'm new to the forum....Hi How are ya and all that... :wink:

I have an 81 550 Seca that I stole for 350 bucks It needs very little to be road-worthy once again, and one of those things is a tail light lens.

This tail light lens is a most elusive thing. Not available through any of the Yamaha web-sites (that I've looked at) and it seems to be a one year only part. :?:

If any one of you kind souls has a tail light that matches this description...I'd be willing to go as high as 50 bucks plus shipping.

OR...if anyone has any suggestions on how to modify any other sort of lens or tail light assembly to fit, that would be cool as well.

The ductail on the 550 Seca is very similar to the shape of the Kwaka Z900 and Z1000's. Maybe tahe a look at them for compatability.

My 550 Seca lens has a couple of cracks in it but have never bothered looking for one. must add that to my list at the weekly scrounge at my local wreckers. :wink:

 

Thanks for the suggestion, HG. I'll add those Kawi models to my regular ebay searches.

My tail light has a gaping hole in it which the PO remedied by taping a chunk of another tail light inside the lens. Not my idea of a good fix. :roll:

I was thinking about cutting out the center of the tail light lens and then inserting a chunk of red lens plastic into it. Not sure I trust my Dremel skills enough to try it, though. :?

You might try some of the bike salvage yards that sell on fleabay, I've had good luck with hard stuff from them.

Success! I found a guy on ebay who was just starting to part out an XJ550RH, so I sent him a message asking if he had a tail light. He did, hadn't listed it yet so I offered him 35 bucks for it. He accepted and now I have one less "unavailable" thing to track down. :mrgreen:
