Well first off hello all, ya'll have a wonderful forum here. Found almost all the info i needed without to much trouble.

Im a huge metric bobber fan and i have a thing for force induction. So this model bike seems like the bike for me.

Well as the title say, I got a few questions about the XJ650LJ Turbo!

I found this beast in a junkyard all the way down here in florida. Doesn't seem like its in to bad of condition. The fairings and paint are all still there, does not appear to have ever been laided down so thats a plus.

So i asked the guy a lil about the bike. He said it took it for payment on a motoswap he did 2 years ago. It ran well when he parked it and there it has sat ever sense.....

Please keep in mind I am an Auto Mechanic but I don't feel like starting off my first metric build with tearing everything apart 100%, 70% tops :)

    So my question is...
How after I get the carbs cleaned out and re-installed, how do I synch them?

Do I disconnect the boost hose and tune them while they are pulling vacume?

I know that the carbs are different from the non-turbo carb, but is the tunning methods the same?

Anyhelp would be wonderful, and greatly thanked for!

Also on a side note. I also plan on
    - Replacing ALL fuel line
    - Cleaning the check valve inline with the turbo oil line (causes oil to pool in turbo and smoke as the bike runs)
    - Cleaning fuel system check valve (again causes lean)
    - Cleaning tank
    - Checking cork seal in the gas cap (when cork hard causes leanness)
    - Clean entire turbo (dirty wastegate actuator causes overboost)
    - Check for battery warning light sensor (If present in the batter it may tell me a lil of how it was taken care of before that jerk off)
    - Check compression, spark ect

Once I get her running and bobbed, Im going to totaly upgrade the turbo system for 15psi
    -Mecanical boost controller
    -38mm Wastegate
    -38mm Blow-Off Valve

Thanks for all the info. Look forward to hrs spent on this cool lil bike!

If the bike plastics are good I'd seriously think about restoring the bike as standard!

yeah I thought about it as well. But yeah Im still gonna cut it up!

    BUT

Seeing that Yamaha only sold this bike for 2yrs in that trim. I am going to try and remove All trim carefully enough so that someone else can use the styling peices.

The Seat, fairings, tank ect will all be available for purchase first here then if no one here or my local shops/craigslist wants them. Ill be posting the whole kit on ebay so that they have a chance to live on and I can get some extra scratch for my build

Im sorry I just think the bike in stock form is ugly. Personal opinion not stating it as a fact so no one flame me.

Im just surprised no one on here has the carb info I need!

My question is: Can my 82' XJ650 Turbo be fitted with a speedo that exceeds 80 mph? I hear the bike can do ab out 140 and I sure would like to see it.

I recently bought an 82' Turbo with just 9,993 miles in it. Been sitting 11+ years. Tank was near full of gas that had begun to turn to tar. What a nasty mess of the entire fuel system. Was able to clean all components, with the exception of the fuel pump. Picked one up off ebay..for a bargin.
Purchased a CD from Cyber Bytes, containing 7 factory shop manuals and suppliments for the XJ650's and Turbo's. What a great resource.

In rebuilding the carbs I discovered the Turbos use two differing main jets: 127.5 for #1 & #4 and 132.5 for #2 & #3. Due to my being at 5K feet elevation, I dropped two sizes to 122.5 and 127.5 and also changed the pilets to 32.5 from stock 35. Burns and performs great!

Boost can be increased from 7 to 14.2 by disconnecting and plgging the waste gate vacume line. WOW! What a performance enhancement.

Sync the carbs like any other XJ. They are sealed, but they work like any other carb off boost. Don't forget the YICS block off.
As to the speedo, you need one from Canada or Europe. I have one available. Pm for details.

my first seca turbo had sat for many years.crunchy tar in the float bowls.it was a real archaeological dig.i counted the turns on the mixture screws and wrote them down when i reassembled i put them as i had noted.when i started the bike they were very close.but yes you sync them as yamasarus said.
