Back on 2 wheels as of today, after a marathon spanner wielding couple of weeks.

Bought as a non runner, with knackered everything, it now rides far better than I expected it would, after getting through the last half gallon of 3 year old petrol.

    My list of dones..

    Fork seals
    calipers rebuilt -all 3
    replaced TCi unit
    new fusebox
    new rear shock
    new shock linkage
    new wheel bearings
    brake fluid change
    welded motad
    new exhaust gaskets
    new battery
    carbs stripped,rebuilt and balanced
    full service
    steering head bearings greased

    to do:
    bodywork- maybe full respray
    12 v socket
    fit heated grips
    replace rev counter

all done in 2 weeks, just in time for the rain and wind :?

Looks great! It even has the same tyres as mine - imitation Metzelers!!! Hopefully it will have the same shock soon!!!

How about the MOT - or is it to do?

PS I've been to Nairn - had to do a job at the creamery - and I know Fife to Inverness is a fair journey!

Looks great! You mentioned lumpy running, and I hate to say this now that all the bodywork's back on, but---

Did you check and adjust the valves?

No, the engine actually runs sweet,no noise, and when it wants to,plenty of power. Its a fuel issue,as I've managed to move the flat spot, improve cold starting, improve hot starting and make it idle as smooth as silk....just not all at the same time! More fettling needed!

I think I've got it now, rev's beautifully. Question though.. does semi synthetic oil make the clutch slip on XJ's? It only happens at about 9000 RPM, and is instant- not a gradual slip- the revs just rocket!

Howsitgaun! I'm in Glenrothes, but used to live in Kdy, went to Kirkcaldy High!

Work out the other side of Dunfermline, and the old XJ is racking up the miles back and forward every day. heated grips are a godsend :) (May be for sale soon though... I'm missing the torque of the big bikes...)

    What do you ride?
