I have only just got the bike running right, new paint job etc, put about 10 pound worth of petrol in and away I go, ride it around and after about 4 days of riding, I road it home and on the way back from a mates house It starts dieing, pull over to one side, no leaks etc try it on prime no difference, I managed to limp back home. Tried it this morning on reserve and bam fired straight up and idled like a queen...........So not enough fuel in tank me thinks, I need to meausure more closely when I properly fill up and how many miles I can get out of it.

    Lesson learned!!!

sometimes gas gets left in the right side of tank, tip it way over to the left, pick it up slowly and you might get a few miles

    Dazsculpt,
You might want to check the vent on the tank cap. sounds like it might be plugged. After sitting all night the tank got enough air in it to allow more fuel into the carbs. If it wouldn't run on prime it shouldn't have ran on Res.
Normally when your riding with the petcock in the "ON" position, you'll feel it losing power. Reach down and turn it over to "Res" and your back in business. If it doesn't you may have the plugged vent of a problem with the petcock. Just a Thought

Thanks I'll bear that in mind, I overhauled the cap and put a new gasket from Chacal so i'm almost convinced it's not that.

Without a fuel sensor like you have on cars makes it difficult to calculate

    I'll keep you posted

Polocks reply may have solved a strange occurance
    of mine.
78 miles into a full tank she acted like it was out of fuel.
Hit reserve and she was fine. Stopped about 2 miles later
at a gas station but the tank was still over half full!
I've had the petcock/fuel senser /fuel capoff just last month
to paint the tank and checked them over well.
No prob since. The only thing that makes sence other then a
bad diaphram ( new vac hose) is fuel somehow keeping to
the right hand side of the tank. How thats possible I can't
imagine but the fuel delivery system is in perfect shape.
