Finally, the Turbo project is almost done!

Just about everything except the motor had to be rebuilt or replaced. The turbocharger, carbs, brakes, forks, seat cover, wire harness, skins, tires, fuel and air lines, wheel bearings... probably something else I forgot.

Eventually, it will get a paint job... Also, the lower fairing pieces will be on by this weekend. They didn't quite get here yet.

It was well worth it. It's a fun bike and I'll have to borrow it from my friend from time to time :-D

Yes I know what you are talking about. I have been through the same and I've got my Turbo on the street 2 weeks ago. OK winter project though.
I will do the paint job next winter, now its riding time and what fun that is - i cant help smiling every time i feel the boost, yehaah.

Btw did you get the turbo renovated and if yes where?

We got a good used turbo unit on eBay - the original one was wore out. The bearings were shot and the fins on the cold side impeller were all broken off, like it swallowed a loose piece of metal.

But yeah, the boost does make me grin a bit. Hard to believe that a factory bike from the 80's can move so fast.

do you have the boost upgrade? because like from factory they push out 4 psi, but you can safely get 16..

You don't need the boost upgrade. Just block off the right side exhaust and use the pop off valve in the plenum box. Its set to go off at 15 lbs of boost.

My turbo is OK and works fine (no free play in bearings).
The wastegate was frozen in closed position and I just left it that way. Anyone out there who know how much horsepower that will give. I expect +100.

The exhaust on this one has the smaller washer, but even with the waste gate hooked up and functioning, it pegs the boost gauge.

The darn fuel check valve decided to malfunction yesterday... It seems that it's stuck partially open, so it's starving the bike at full boost. We have a new one on the way, so hopefully this will take care of it.

the check valve you can take apart easily, its only three screws. Take it apart and clean up everything, there might be some rust or other junk in there. If that doesnt work you can always just take the guts out of it, if you do that you MUST turn the fuel off every time the engine is off or you will wind up with gas in the engine.. NOT GOOD!!!!

dino, we tried cleaning it. It actually looked pretty decent inside, but kept getting stuck. Also, the gasket was so flat that it was sweating a little bit of gas around the seam.

I have repaired mine. It was the little o ring thats getting hard. I went to my car mechanic and he had a lot of them, got one for free. He said that they are used in cars fuel injection, very common.
I did use a lot of time trying to make the old one going, but no luck. But with the new rubber o ring the sun was shining in a second.
