I have a 1981 XJ 650 H Maxim and I need a little help. I just put in a used starter last season off of Ebay and it's starting to go out again. I might have a source to get me a new on, but I need a manufacture and a part number for the starter for him to look it up. Can anybody please pass a part number on to me. Or if somedody has a good working spare starter that they are willing to part with for a reasonable price please let me know. I know I can get one for a round $180.00 last year.
    Thank you.

Did you also check your starter solenoid and wires? I've had more problems with solenoids and wires in my 25 years of XJ Yamaha ownership. These XJ starters are reliable and seldom give problems. A local starter/alternator shop could rebuild yours for around 100$.

I sent the origianal starter to the rebuild shaop and it was toast. I might try it again. I know my solenoid it shot I have to tap it about every start. I can get this for about $40. I might just get it first and see what it does.
Thanks for the quick reply this is why I like this form so much. I do have to admit that I'm getting a 06 Boulevard as soon as Uncle Sam pays me. (Tax return) I still love my Maxim I just need something bigger.
