She doesn't run, but she at least rolls! Sorta...
Tank's in decent shape, very minimal surface rust inside. She takes the same battery as my 400 Seca, so I swapped the oil out for some fresh stuff and she turns over REAL nice. Carbs are seized solid. (I've just finished ripping them apart and they are bathing in Kerosene... don't have a big tub of Carb Cleaner!) Aparantly a mouse was trying to live in the airbox and chewed through the cotton element, but couldn't make it through the wire frame of the filter! All this with a clean title for $340 CDN.
I am very, very happy right now! I was going to pick up an '84 900 Seca for about the same price, in waaaaaay rougher shape. Unfortunatly I work a 10 hour shift, and even though I told the guy I was coming with cash after work, he sold it. Can't fault him, but that kinda sucked. A couple of days later THIS popped on the local kijiji posting. I learned my lesson and showed up with cash ASAP. ^^

Search for "XJ 600 manual" and there is a post with a free download link. It is slow and the person uploading it has actually photographed each page of the Haynes manual!

You can see the detail though!

Yup, I'm a tard. Just ended up doing a search on google for Yamaha_j-XJ-FZ-YX_600_84-92 and www.racebiketuning.com came up, super-fast download.

That is the slow link! I hope yours isn't photos!

There is another link to xj wiring diagrams - type "Thundersports" in the search box and the post will show up. The diagrams are different to the Haynes (Maybe Yamaha?)

I recently sold my 600 and now wish I hadn't but it seemed like a good idea at the time! Good luck with your restoration.
I was recently trying to help "FJBell" diagnose a lighting problem but looking at your bike I can undestand why I couldn't make sense - the US bikes do not have a lighting switch on the Right hand grip!!

Wow, yup. I haven't seen a headlight switch on the right hand side before. Even a 197x Hondamatic without a clutch has it on the left!
This manual is the photographs, but I was at Canadian Tire the DAY before I bought her and saw it in the clearance bin!!! I'm heading back there later today, hopefully it's still in there!

Update on progress, ripped the carbs completly apart and gave them a half-assed cleaning. Tapped out emultion tubes and ran wire through all the little holes etc. Just need to pick up O-rings for the fuel tubes and they are good to go. Then we'll check and see how she runs! ^^

How many times do you feel like taking them out?
Read the carb cleaning threads on this forum and do it once.
Kinda like saying you did the brakes, but only put one shoe in the back and one pad in the front. 8O
If you got them apart, do it right.

It was registered till 03, but the guy parked it to pay for Firefighter school... that and he was apparently going to lose his license! ;)
So it was parked in '02.
As for the carbs? Just 1 extra time. I really like to know what I'm getting into before I tear it all apart for a complete frame-up rebuild. And it only takes me 20 mins to take them off and put them on.
That being said SHE RUNS! Used my patented lawnmower gas tank zip-tied to the frame (with an inline filter of course) and even zipped her around the block a few times... at just after midnight, lol.
Clutch is in surprisingly good form, although a bent kickstand had resulted in a bent leaver while it was in storage.... nothing my vise couldn't squish back into place tho!. However the kick is a flimsy POS... the one on my 400 Seca is waaaay sturdier.
Next up, sneak over to the Husky down the street and pressure wash her real good, she's just nasty. Gunk and grime everywhere!

Careful with the pressure washer it could force water in where you don't want it to go. Lots of soapy water or even Gunk/Dunk engine degreaser, but with a garden hose is safest.

Hmn, I think you're right. AND I have engine degreaser on hand. And I don't have to potentially push it back! ^^
On another note, I think I have the FZ forks... there's air nipples at the top. From the manual the FJ/XJ didn't have air assist. I'm gonna run out and take pics in a bit!

There's a sticker on the lower left fork, mostly worn. Bottom of it says Kayaba something(worn away). I know the brakes on the FZ and FJ are nearly identical if not completely (2mm difference diameter of discs???) and I most certainly have the FJ 18" rim to match the 18" rear.
Any ideas? Could someone have mixed and matched FZ uppers with FJ lowers? Now I'm itching to take the forks apart, but I'm sworn the keep it 100% 'rollable' until my Seca 400 is done and out of the way!
