Well the brake line on the bottom is weeping and its time to replace them both,Any ideas or experiences with aftermarket lines? I'm not sure of the lengths to order as the lines are still on the bike. Are these 10mm banjos on the bike?

I'm a newer owner of an '83 XJ550, and need to replace the brakelines too. I just checked them and they're dated 5/82, so they have done their duty.

I want to go with stainless, and Bike Bandit has some in all sorts of sizes, and i'm not sure which ones to go with, and if I have to buy any other line fittings besides the crush washers.

Also, I'm thinking about rebuilding my brake master cylinder just using one of those kits. I was just wondering if anyone has found a kit that comes with a new viewing window because mine is so discolored that it isn't worth a crap.

Does anyone else know of a good place to get some good brake lines?

Hey guys, we offer original style rubber or custom-fit stainless braided brake lines for your bikes (as well as lots of other brake system rebuild or upgrade parts). And yes, even the correct 10mm banjo bolts and their crush washers!

I replaced mine on the XS and XJ1100 last year with HEL lines(http://www.helbrakelines.com/Home_Page.html). They had a kit that had everything I needed, lines, banjo bolts, bleed screws and gaskets. All the hardware in the kit was stanless, it was the best investement I made for the bikes. Each kit was around 225$. Just remember the XJ1100 has front and rear hydraulic brakes. A single line kit for yours will be much less.

Got mine from chacal, went with black for as stock an appearance as possible:

He also did custom uppers for me for both bikes, because of the lower handlebars.

I painted the lower fittings; and the EBC floating-rotor disc came from Len too.

@mlew How much of an improvement did you notice? How many miles and years were on the old lines and considering that how significant do you feel the improvement was? Thanks
