Found this while emptying my oil pan today. Is it from a fork? That's all I could think of.

Your oil filter has a spring similar to that.

Well, That might be it, I changed the oil and filter when I changed the fork oil.

If you just dumped the Oil Filter Dome into a Container, ... Fish around with a Magnet and see if you can find the Large Flat Washer that goes along with that Spring.

The Spring and Flat Washer are used in conjunction to apply pressure on the Oil Filter to keep the Oil Filter in Place.

Th Old Style Filters were all Cardboard and Paper. The Flat washer Kept the Filter in Place and the Spring from collapsing the Filter.

Look at the Parts Site and see how they are placed inside the Oil Filter Dome.

Don't be too surprised if you don't find the washer. Many of them were thrown out with a filter years ago.

I think replacement oil filter washers give Chacal a nice stream of beer money

It looks like a five dollar bill to me. I think that's a funny looking paper wieight you have holding it down. How did money get in your oil pan anyways? LOL

You want to get that back in there right away, even without the washer if necessary; right now your oil filter can flop fore and aft in the housing, sliding back and forth on the bolt. Not good for flow or pressure.

Check the old filter-oil and surface tension can cause the washer
to stick and it may still be there.

Sadly it is long gone, like 3 weeks ago. And I also am stuck with a filter cover bolt that the PO had badly mangled so... I am SOL at the moment Figure I will get to it when I return from a 3 month trip I leave for on the 13th. Perhaps I will get the spin on filter kit from Chocal. Looks sweet
