    Hello all,

First post, want to start off with a big thanks to the community. Just picked my bike up off craigslist for $700 (running). The search function has solved a lot of my initial questions about this beast. I have one though that in a relatively short lifetime on two wheels, has me at a loss. This week I had a new set of Bridgestone Spitfires put on and all was well, spent the rest of the week commuting which is all surface street driving. Yesterday I decided to take her out on the freeway and blast up north. Again, all was well until I stopped for fuel about 30 miles out. As I was accelerating back into traffic, I felt that sickening wobble in the back. But it wasn't a full on blowout. I was able to pull off at the next exit (though with all the color drained from my face). Up on the center stand, everything looked okay. Bead was still in tact, no punctures. So I hit it with the compressor and it took 28 psi with no problem. Decided to take it slow, took hwy 23 to the PCH. Now this is a serious canyon road, switchbacks galore and huge altitude gain and loss in a few miles. Tire held the whole way to the coast. Held all the way to Santa Monica on the PCH in a mixture of 60 mph cruising and stop and go Saturday traffic. Like clockwork, though, as soon as the road turned into I-10 and speed reached 70mph, the tire was almost flat again. Filled it up again and crawled back home. Pressure held steady all the way. Now, before I storm into the shop tomorrow morning with my middle fingers held high, does anyone have any idea what could cause something like this? I apologize for the long post, but its a beautiful Sunday and I can't go cruising because of this gimpy tire so I seem to have turned to writing novels.

I would take it back to the shop and explain your problem Politely. Perhaps they didn't change the valve on your wheel (should be renewed with every tyre) and it is at fault. Ask them if they could run a little tyre sealer around the bead (The bead could be alright, but a little air might be getting past as the tyre heat up...tyre sealer will solve this)

Or the worst case you may have gotten a bad tyre (not very likely)

I recon you have one of the top two problems

(I'm Scottish so please excuse the correct spelling of tyre!!! )

Haha, yes, polite of course. But I think I am dealing with one of "those" shops. When I had the tyres ( :) ) put on, I had two warning signs right off the bat. 1. No split pin in the front axle which I might not have noticed if not for.. 2. The front caliper was reinstalled in such a way that it was locked down and unable to pivot leading to constant drag. Both things I was able to fix easy enough, but it does lead me to believe that an installation error is far more likely than a manufacturing defect.

You could always take it to another shop and ask them to take a look.....
