Has anyone replaced the rectangular headlight on your XJ with a round one? If so, how did you adapt the mounting brackets?

I'd like to pick up a small fairing off e-bay to help cut the wind blast on my interstate commute, but all of them are designed for round headlights...

I'm interested in this as well, though I don't want a fairing. The way I see it, there are plenty of aftermarket headlight assmeblies with simple mounting brackets that would fit our bikes. Unless I'm missing something it shouldn't be that hard. The key would be not adapting the old bracket, but getting one that fits the new assembly.

    This is for a 1981 750 seca.

I did this on my seca, and had to hillbilly it a little. IF I recall, I had to drill out some of the top mounting holes on the bucket mounting bracket. The ones that attach up top, under where the speedometer mount goes, and shim some washers to make the spacing work. I used some other mounting holes for the bottom, as it did not line up with anything. I took off the front brake cylinder and have a bar mount, so some of those holes I used for the headlight. Lots of crap up underneath that rectangular headlight, horns, wires, and maybe fuses (can't recall).

I belive I used a maxim round or an XV light, can't recall what it was. I also bought chrome instruments to replace the computer pod, but haven't gotten around to that yet.

I used the bucket, but bought a new halogen insert off of EBay to put into the bucket. Get a big bucket as there are lots of *&^% wires that hardly fit inside the bucket so Ihad to move a few of them. Not hard work, but piddly and fiddly. Take your time and you'll be fine.

If you want more specifics, I'll go out and have a peek, I did this 16 months ago and have not looked at it since.
