    Nice Bike.
Ad written to show he's a Bike guy,
    Stock Airbox. Stock Pipes.
Very fast accelerator. Wicked. +5th & 6th for all day - highway.
You have to be careful on a Fazer.

    It's not a Trainer.
It can put you in a situation where your skills will be tested.
And, the Test is given every time you turn the Key to ON and push the button that says START!

It's an "X" motor, like the watercooled XJs. Five valves per cylinder, CHAIN driven, twin shock frame. Valve adjustment "pads" under the buckets, requiring camshaft removal to adjust, like the Max X's. Quite possibly the cause of the hard starting (valves need adjusting.)

$1500 seems fairly high for this bike in this condition. Hard starting when cold - cold-start circuit in carbs still not clean enough/idle mix not set properly. Very small gas tank and narrow seat IIRC. Forget about any aftermarket support. Never liked the Fazer look that much but to each his own...

Well, zap2504 is right about the price, for starters. I wouldn't go more than $800.

As long as the increased complexity of the water cooling and "pad UNDER bucket" valve adjustment doesn't put you off, then it might be if you like the styling.

It is a Yamaha after all, and a direct descendant of the XJ.

Personally, I don't mind shimming valves from above, but anything that requires me to pull the camshafts to do routine maintenance is off my list.

how does that one go? "First the test is given and you pass or fail, then if you're lucky you get to learn the lesson from it"

    81Seca550,

Just saw an ad on the Harrisburg CL (but the bike is in York) for a '81 750 Maxim with hard bags for less $$$ than what you were looking at. For some reason it is not listed on the York CL.

I love those Fazers... Someone had an 86 750 in the town where i grew up, red/black with a Kerker 4-1 exhaust, easily the fastest bike in town at the time and sounded amazing!

With that being said, I'm happy about being to work so easily on my 650 where it's not watercooled like that monster. If you're serious I'd offer 1200 bucks and make a nice place on your workbench for the valve adjustment to come.

Big heavy fast bike.. Hmmm.. Exactly what I like.. You've got a 20 litre tank on that, not like the teeny 13litre on a V-Max.. And with 45mpg, you should get over 100 miles between fills, and the 95bhp should throw you around corners.. But be careful.. It's like my XJR, you twist the throttle too hard without thinking, and not only might you end up going into the back of a car without realising it, you might end up in prison.. I've found my speedo reading 200kph before I realised what was going on.. Unlike a sports bike, you just don't feel the speed, it feels like it should be going everywhere at over 100mph..

But don't be fooled.. Like most fast heavy bikes, you put a foot wrong, you're going to end up in the s**t before you realise it.. If you buy it, give yourself the chance to get to know it BEFORE you get tempted to open the throttle wide.

Don't know why the PO bought a fast bike then castrated it by going back to stock though.. You don't buy this kinda bike to get a high MPG, you buy it to give yourself a thrill.
