Bleeding brakes

    Ok I just rebuild the master cylendar and calipers. Ive bled the brakes all the air seems to be out but I still have no pressure, whats up with that??? 1982 maxim xj750j

    Air is still in the master cylinder, did you pump the brakes while bleeding or use a vacuum to pull the fluid through?

    I did it the old fasioned way by pumping it up. I am using the bungie cord trick holding it down fir a night, I think it will work to get the air out if its held down to be open and let the air out, or could you loosen the line connection at the master cylendar?

    Don't loosen the unions, you're more likely to let air in rather than out, I would check that you have everything in the MC in the right order.

    Thanks, air gets trapped in these things. I will try the bungie cord trick overnight, if it doesnt work wich is the banjo bolt I here everyone talk about.

    Does your bike still have the original rubber brake lines? Mine did, and I had the exact same problem. I bought braided steel brake lines from chacal, and that solved the problem. The rubber lines can weaken over time, and they will balloon out under the pressure.

    Thanks for the tip but the lines seem to be aok. The bungie cord trick overnight worked and I have pressure now, I think it lets the air pocket out of the master cylendar out overnight when ther brake is locked on with the cord. I may do braded lines after I get everything else rebuilt.

    Hey Ive got pressure and brakes work but now the brake light is on on the dash warning light. When I pulled it off to rebuild it Maybe I got the wires crossed and cant figure out how to get the light to go back off. I tryed a different switch with no fluid in it. Does there have to be fluid in it for it to work? I had the float raised to the top and the light is still on. Anyone have a picture of the wiring. I have a diagram but it doesnt seem to be right, The 2 green wires go to a brown on in the head light bucket.

    Nope not the wires, went for a ride today ad the light goes on and off at will, switch must be going bad.

    Might want to try cleaning the inside of the "float" (it has a metal ring inside the hole) and make sure that the shaft is clean. It's basically a variable resistor inside the shaft that "reads" where the metal ring (inside the float opening) is.............
