I would like to know if I can use water to set my floats? I do plain on flushing them out with carb cleaner and blowing them out after. Would the water be to dense and throw of the reading? I hate to stink up my basement and house just to get my floats adjusted.

    Thanks for your time

nope, the properties are different. Maybe someone here will respond w/ a more accurate substance but I think hydrolic fluid or household cleaner worked better. search 'fuel level' and hopefully you'll come accross a discussion with many different solvents in place of fuel, it's been just about a year since I read it myself. good luck

I think this argument's been going on for ages. If I recall, the general consensus after pages of back-and-forthing is just to use gasoline and eliminate any variables.

This is probably the best idea, I think, given the fine adjustments required to correct float levels (0.5mm's).

Correct. I myself used to advocate using mineral spirits until I realized that even THAT has a different specific gravity (and therefore different bouyancy) than gasoline.

Use gas for best accuracy; definitely NOT water.

    Thanks

I was just hoping it was okay to use water. Now I will need to do it outside.
