Something else I need to get is a cover for the XJ650 Maxim. The bike looks like it's been garaged it's whole life but sadly that has to stop now. For the moment I'm covering it with what used to be a cover for a Barbecue grill. It's old, leaks and doesn't cover the whole bike. The XJ deserves better.

I was thinking about trying to use an old tent fly to do the job but if I can get something designed to do the job & doesn't have logos all over it, that would be a good solution.

I do need a unit which will cover not only the wheels but also the windshield which is one of the taller kind.

Maybe fleabay would be a source but any known source of generic covers that will fit my beyootiful bike while she is sleeping?

    Thanks!

Just don't use a plastic tarp, they will trap moisture inside and make your bike rust faster. Any dedicated bike cover will do , they breath and let moisture out. Best option would be to get a ready made 8x8 storage shed. It could also double as a place to keep your tools and other bike stuff.

I don't know if there is a Mills Fleet Farm around where you live but here I got a motorcycle cover for between 20-40 bones. Alot cheaper than most places

+1 for the proper motorcycle cover.

Years ago i put a 2 years old Kawasaki VN under a cheap plastic cover...2 months and due to the moisture rusty places came here and there.

After i moved, my Seca sleeps outside and i buyed a proper cover for about 40 USD and despite the rainy Dutch weather everything stays fine!

First - a proper motorcycle cover is essential - even the ones from Wal-Mart are good, and will handle the windshield ok.

Now - if you can afford it, these are the best you can get short of getting yourself a garage:
    The MotoShell $ 190
    The RideInn $ 369-405
    The Bike Barn $ 390-450
    Prices are including the shipping

Was dreaming of those, till I got a house with a garage :D

Thanks all for the replies. Where I am there's covenants & restrictions that don't allow any external sheds and considering the number of retirees around here with nothing to do but find an issue to dog, I can't go for a shed type structure.

Looks like my best bet is to find a cover that will cover the wheels and with the windshield. I don't know what size to go for, some of them I've seen are measured in " like 82".

Do need something, the grill cover is the last thing left from the grill and there's a few holes in it. This morning there was water on the tank & seat...

I live 300' from the ocean so I need something...

    Will keep on looking.

    Check K-Mart.
I picked up a decent cover for my Seca that should fit the Maxim with a screen damn near perfectly. I believe it was $30.00

K-Mart... Whoda thunk. With that in mind I tried Wally World and found one at a good price ($19) and they assured me if it doesn't fit I can bring it back. It's called "semi-custom" and this one is supposed to fit a fully dressed bike up to 1100cc. They have another one which is supposed to be goods to 1500 or so cc.

I never would have thought Wally World would carry these, the ones around here don't even carry cycle oil or filters.

I really appreciate the suggestions everyone offered, what a great resource xjbikes is, just wonderful! Imagine how hard it would be to find solutions and parts without it!

    Thanks!

I would go "upscale" and see what Bike Bandit or even JC Whitney offers rather than go with a $20 cover from Wallyworld.

The only drawback to covers: Even a nice high-quality cover with a soft felt lining and an aluminum blanket by the pipes will pick up dirt and scratch the crap out of your bike unless it's absolutely clean. I have this really nice matching bright blue cover for my Norton that I soon found to be completely impractical for use on road trips, etc.

In your situation, though, a good quality cover is essential. You don't want a moisture trap. You will need to keep the bike clean.
