Hi guys, well I bought my first bike a couple weeks ago. I got a 83 XJ750 Midnight Maxim. I've been looking around the forum for a bit and decided to join. I'm still debating between a cafe racer and a ratty bobber. Judging by my name i'm sure you can see where I'm leaning. Unfortunately I don't currently have my camera, but I will get a few pics up when I get a chance.

Welcome Bastard! I've been working on my bike for a couple weeks now and I couldn't have done ANY of it without the dudes on this site. It is a great resource. Can't wait to see some pics!

Welcome aboard! I'll give you the same advice I give every "new XJ" owner:

For parts: See "XJ4Ever-supporting vendor" in the forums index. xjbikes.com/Forums/vie.../f=23.html

chacal carries about every part you will ever need.

Check your REAR BRAKE SHOES! These bikes have a known issue with delamination: xjbikes.com/Forums/vie...15874.html

Check the valve clearances, often overlooked due to perceived difficulty.

Check date codes on tires, anything over 6 years old has to go.

Check fuse box, and immediately fit an inline fuel filter.

Get a service manual or two and go through the "maintenance" section item by item, leaving nothing out. Clean, inspect and replace anything you find that is worn out or deteriorated from age; plan on replacing any gasket you disturb at least the first time.

    Read this: http://xjbikes.com/Forums/viewtopic/t=14581.html

    And this: http://xjbikes.com/Forums/viewtopic/t=24010.html

Use the "search" feature, or start picking your way through "FAQ Suggestions" and I think you will find most of your questions will have already been answered.

Put your bike info in your signature and at least a general location in your profile so we don't have to keep asking, and again, welcome aboard.

Thanks for the warm welcome guys, and Fitz I am working on her down to the frame and replacing everything I see that looks wornout. I have the Haynes manual and plan on checking/replacing the rear boots. I wouldn't have thought to check valve clearances so I will do that. And I will be slapping some new rubber on there when I start getting close to completion (tyres are 4 years old and look pretty good, but what the heck).
