Hi Folks, I posted a new to Forum first message about 4 weeks ago, and now have a chance to display a recent pic of my Seca as i cruised around the Blue Hills in Boston during Fall Foliage season...best time of year around here if you ask me.

    My Seca 750

Hi Guys, Seem to be having a problem getting my Pic to load here. It is less than 200 kb in size, and I am following the site instructions. browse for the pic, open the pic, and then click Add attachment. Right ???? Do i need to enter anything in File Comment ???? Maybe my pic is more than 500 by 480, I do know its about a 110 kb file size if that helps.

Hi Guys, I was getting a bit of vapor lock earlier there. Even my tiniest compressed pics were over the 500 by 480 pixel limit. Even if they were only 110 kb`s. l I cant even get my brain around that size, its so small. Pity as I can produce a 512 by 480 which is just over the limit, and a lot nicer than the size presented...oh well !!!!!!...........This pic was taken as stated earlier at the Blue Hills...sorry for the screw ups.......Daithi

Thanks for the comments re the bike. Yeah, i try to keep it up, and it aint perfect, but I am working on that !!! Little by little. I expect to own this bike for a very long time, hopefully. I am very attached to Yamahas in general, and Secas in particular. I have every bit as much pleasure owning and riding this bike as my other rides. Its all about emotion to me.

You guys keep posting sweet pictures of the Secas and I may have to reconsider my bias toward the Maxim.

Here is another pic I took earlier in the year, with a nice New England style backdrop. First ride of the year on Bostons south shore. April and 70f.....Ya gotta love it !!!!

Nice clean bike, Daithi. (CaptainKirk's little 550 is pretty sweet, too) Hope you're enjoying this freaky-warm weather as much as I am. Here's a shot of my latest '82 Seca 650 as it looked when I bought it in September. The bike is all original except for the tires, grips (replaced with OEMs since this photo was taken), and the paint on the cylinder head (I've since polished the edges of the cooling fins). The bike has just over 8300 miles on the clock, and runs like new. See you on Chickatawbut Road!

Daithi, that is one clean engine! The Seca always looked in red too.
And "Banshee" , it would appear that someone has been polishing her clutch cover so as to keep her happy. I hope the other side has received as much attention. :) Contrast that to the 650 with a black engine and it just goes to show that these bikes look good in any style.

Thanks for the kind comments on the Seca. Your 650 looks great, and it brings back memories from the early eighties in Ireland. The 650 `s were very popular when they came out, and there are still a few of them on the road over there to this day. There was aslo a red version over there. The 650 was almost as fast as the 750 but needed more revving, and was less economical on the Gas if i remember correctly. I dont think it had the `swirl combustion` YICS..that the 750 had. Nice classic lines that have dated very well. I also like the huge round headlight that the bike had. I took my last ride through the Blue Hills the other day, enjoying the crazy mild weather. Pity you were not around. We will have to meet next year for a ride and maybe get Rickomatic to join us !!!!!!............Daithi

Hi Switz, Thats a very clean looking Black seca you got there. I know how hard it is to keep black paint looking as mint as yours is. The orange/red stripe is a nice highlight. I still have the Cycle World test of that color model, and your bike looks almost new !!! Did you decide to junk the padded handlebars and put on substitute bars ??? I remember my brothers `81 red Seca only differed from my `82 bike ( When i owned one 24 yrs ago in Ireland ) with its non painted grab rail, non painted motor, and it had a funky yellow `Fog` auxiliary light.

Yes. We'll do the "Fully Pimped and Detailed" Photo-op before doing some Road Trip around here. I'm laying-out plans for Summer, already!

I'm taking my Max over to my sister's house in Saratoga Springs, NY.
I plan on following "The Mohawk Trail" (Rt.2) from Concord to Pittsfield ... heading over the Mountains taking the "Back door" down into the Hudson Valley, close to Troy, NY.
Once you get into New York, that way ... it's play-time!

There's nothing but scenic twisties to where ever you want to go to.
I'll be running a maze of 100% American back-road through New York State's prime Dairy Farm's, the Saratoga Battle Grounds to ...
however far the Sub-urban sprawl extends outside of town by then.

    Highway back; Jack.
I'll be changing the oil right in my sister's driveway before getting launched back to Boston along the Adirondack Northway, The New York Thruway, the MassPike, 495-N and Route 3.*

*Did this run home to Boston, mid-August! On the 900!
Traffic out of NY into MA was going so fast I thought I was in a race.
I swear, there were large chunks of time when I didn't go below 85.

I would have done some serious "Rabbit Following" but I was all out of shape aerodynamically. My back-pack was just too full. A back-pack and that soft-nosed fairing, approaching three figures, would have been real dumb.

But, with white-gloved old-ladies and truckers pulling heavy loads, uphill, doing 90 ... I was happy crusing along in "The Slow Lane."

I've done some rides out that way myself. The Catskills around the Hudson and Delaware River valleys offer some of the best roads and scenery to be found in this part of the world. Watch out for the deer, though. They are EVERYWHERE, especially at night. You don't want a close encounter with an eight point buck at 75 m.p.h. It'll ruin your whole day. Let's definitely organize a ride for the local XJers for next spring if not sooner. There seem to be quite a few of us around, so let's try to get something going. Ride safe 'til then.

Re: Pics of my Seca at last.......I hope...third time lucky

You seem to be quite familiar with the Seca 650. That's probably due to the time you spent in Europe, where the bike was much more successful than it ever was in America. (Are you from Ireland?) Alot of people I talk to around here have never even seen a Seca 650 before. It's a shame the bike never really caught on in the U.S. Motorcyle buyers in the eighties largely overlooked one of the great all-around bikes ever made, IMHO.
I sold my first one back in 1986, and regretted it almost immediately. I looked long and hard for this one, and I'm really pleased with it. Except for a bit of etching in the clearcoat on the tank (anyone know a good place in the Boston area to get that squared away?), and a small chip in the paint on the leading edge of the front fender, the bike is pretty much mint, and it couldn't run any better if it was new.
It's not the torquiest bike in the world, so to get the most out of it, you do have to keep the revs up. In ultra-fun mode, you kind of have to ride it like a two-stroke--keeping your left foot busy to make sure the tach needle stays north of 6 grand. Do that, and you'll be rewarded with some pretty exhillerating performance for a twenty-five-year-old middleweight.

    Tony DeNaro

Tony painted my Max. He's a Master. All the HD crowd take their bikes to him for touch-up's and ding removal.
I imagine you could just pull the part, bring it over and leave it.
I'm a regular at his shop. He restores all the Classics. Right now, the place looks like GTO Heaven. Those GTO Boy's are something. They need all the details right; and if they see another car with something they don't have ... they tell Tony to order it.

All you need is the Paint Code. I have NO idea where to scout Yamaha Paint Codes. I used Classic GM and BMW Colors on my two bikes.

He's got the Swing Arm for my 900 in there. It's ready to paint ... but, I can't decide on a color scheme, color or finish. And, of course ... this process got even more complicated when I layed eyes on those Carb photo's from the other day.

Re: Pics of my Seca at last.......I hope...third time lucky

Yes, I am a native of Ireland and have been living here since 1993. Had visited a few times before that going back to 1976. So I was surrounded by Secas back in the 1981-1983 period especially. Both myself and my brother both had 750 secas back then, and in fact he was the first person to be on a Seca 750 in Europe ( Mainland ) Funny situation as Ireland exclusively got in Secas direct from Japan via Amsterdam before anybody else got them. The bike had been splashed all over the US mags at the time and there was a huge amount of excitment about it. I will always remember the story my Brother telling me about a french motorcycle dealer on the Cote D`Azur (Riviera) running down the street after seeing my brother ride by, dying to get a look at the bike. He literally ran out of the showrooms and chased him down the road like a madman. My brother happily obliged him and was treated to fine wine and food for the rest of the day !!!! I am toying with the idea of eithir bringing my Seca back to ireland, or else my FJ1200. One or other is going home next year, as i have too many bikes here, and need a bike for my winter visits. I usually spend 3 months a year there during the winter, and we have mild weather. Very big riding community over there. Serious bikers. I go home in 10 days in fact, and hopefully will be able to borrow my brothers Ducati ST4s on a regular basis. Daithi
