Thinkin about do'in a little mod on my stock airbox, with cutting the back part off were the filter goes, and placing a plate over the hole with a round snout so i can fit a single pod on the back of the airbox. That way i can still use the front chamber part so all the carbs can take in air evenly, but have a pod filter instead of the old style factory filter.

I guess this is one of my many brain storms, probly because the darn stock airbox is such a royal PITA to deal with, and with a removable pod the airbox should be able to slide in and out a whole lot easier.

Just curious if anybodies ever tried this sort of mod before, if so, would i still need to rejet. oppinions please.

Before you do any cutting, ...

Mount a Pod on a Plate that covers the Filter opening.
Leave the roof of the airbox off.

    She how she takes it.
I think you got a winner.
Mainly,, because you'll be leaving-on the Boots which are Velocity Stacks ... shaping and eliminating turbulence.

Yeah im probly gonna go ahead and cut the back of the airbox off nice and neet, that way if it dont work i can just glue it back together. But the snout can be from 1 to 4 or 5 inches long with a pod on the end of it. I think it would be a cool idea given the fact that the factory set up had a nice size filter, with a skinny square tube. It seems to me that this brain storm i got go'in on would give the motor a tad bit more air.

I'm sure you are right about how easily it can be "Put back-together".
I think, ... with the available products for fabricating and repairs to Vinyl and Plastic ... you could probably BUILD a new one scratch.

Yeah after much dilly'in with trying to get the airbox back in the bike without taking the motor back out, my thought is theres got to be a better way, so with a removable style filter system in place, it can bring a whole new meaning to having a stock airbox on board. Yippy Skippy

Yeah you know how projects go, things never seem to go as pland. Got the motor back in, but it'll be a few months before i can get around to the carbs (just sitting there on the shelf) because moneys kind'a tight at this time, i dont know about pics, not sure how to put put'em on yet, but i guess i'll have to figure that one out to.

Haha yeah I've been rebuilding a 4runner for almost a year now. I think money is tight just about everywhere, including here.

I have SEVERAL projects besides the XJ bike. I have an XJ (Cherokee) that I bought for $300 after selling my Wrangler for $8k. Then I have 2 4 wheelers, 1 3 wheeler, a gsxr, and a cb750f :D I just need to focus on one at a time and actually FINISH one of them :(
