my maxim is having an issue

when i pull the clutch the rear wheel does not spin freely
dead stop just like in gear so i think it is just not dissengaging i have tried adjusting it its the same with it pulled all the way out

it has oil thats less than a month old
do i need to replace the clutch should i open it and clean it first

and if i do need to replace it will the clutch from a 550 maxim or 750 seca work because i have both for parts bikes

Has it been sitting? It might just be stuck.

If it's the original clutch, a disassembly, cleaning and inspection is not a bad idea.

Parts from the 750 should work, not from the 550 (the 550 clutch is oddball.)

That being said, NEW friction plates and springs are usually necessary to revive an ancient clutch, worn or not.

heres the update it wasnt pulling the plate out but all of a sudden started working i pulled the cover off to see why it might have been stuck its pretty clean in there all though i do see some yellowing on certain parts the question i have now is

when the cover is off the pull rod in the middle of the clutch is loose it wobbles around should it do this or should it be sturdy in there and only move in and out

It flops all over the place. It's not until it gets engaged with the cover and the throwout shaft gear teeth that it gets lined up.

    Here's what's behind there:

This is from a 550 but they are virtually identical. The "pullrod" is shaped like a top-hat, then there's a flat roller bearing assembly and a hardened washer for it to ride on. It's all quite loose-fitting.

At this rate, you guys are gonna see all the pics for "Clutches 101" before I get the article done.
