Regardless of what I have already asked/posted how about:

A priority list of what new users/newbies should do/check/fix on their new OLD RIDE purchase.

Perhaps list some sort of 1-10 number as far as how important or how soon certain things should be done.

Something like adjusting/sync'ing carbs might not be be at the top of the list if the engines is running and was not sitting for long period.

    HMMM

    Maybe 2-3 priority lists
A ) Been sitting for long/unknown amount of time - DOES NOT START
B ) Same as A but DOES Start
C ) Running and been used recently by previous owner.

Also maybe a list of NECESSARY and special tools needed for certain jobs. I realize many of these tools may be listed in repair manuals, but some people might want to start ordering parts/tools while they wait for their manuals to arrive.

If such lists exists please link them :)

This is not meant to avoid reading the forums/manuals. I'm just imagining a "So you just got your XJ and I want to get it road ready for newbies" FAQ.

    Did I confuse everyone?

Anyone know what were behind that link, it doesn't work anymore...

"- clean and lube all of the electrical connectors on the bike. Corrosion is a factor with any electrical connector, but is especially true with bikes as they are exposed to the elements, and the length of time. Technically simple, tedious but boring to do, absolutely essential. Here, read this when you get the chance and print it out for future reference:

The link, http://xjbikes.com/Forums/viewtopic/t=14608.html works fine, it's chacal's article "talkin' tech" from his Supporting Vendor forum and it's right on the money.

That link, along with http://xjbikes.com/Forums/viewtopic/t=14581.html on the real cost of maintenance,

as well as mine http://xjbikes.com/Forums/viewtopic/t=24010.html on the mindset required to make "the process" actually work, should be required reading for all new XJ owners, especially those new to motorcycling altogether.

If reading those three articles doesn't send them screaming in terror, then they're ready to do this. Kind of a "reality check."
